The choice was obvious for me:
#0 - Deus Ex ( man, WS is GOD ) & Yendorian Tales Series
#1 UW1 & UW2, Ultima 7
#2 M&M2-8 pointing at World of Xeen and Mandate of Heaven, excluding M&M7 - the WORST in the series
#3 Wizards & Warriors ( excellent game, really underrated )
#4 Ravenloft: Stone Prophet & Menzoberranzan
#5 Baldur's Gate 2 & Throne of Bhaal ( BG1 slightly worse than Icewind Dale )
#6 Fallout 2 followed by Fallout
#7 Darksun 2 Wake of the Ravager
#8 Ishar 2 & Ishar I
#9 Anvil of Dawn
and #10 - Lands of Lore 2 ( the best from the trilogy !)

My Top 10 CRPG's
1. Lands Of Lore - The first one... all the others sucked
2. Betrayal at Krondor
3. Dragon Wars - a real old one from Interplay that used the Bards Tale Engine and was also the first CRPG I played all the way through..
4.Daggerfall- Man I loved being a thief and breaking into 2nd and 3rd story level houses...
5. Menzoberranzan
6. Might and Magic VI
7. Ultima UnderWorld
8. Balders Gate 2
9. Diablo II -- Just cause I played it so much...
10. Wizardy 7

1) Wizardry 1 (Most engaging character development for the time and for a long time after. Also had the best box texture ever *g*)
2) Wastelands (Open ended, truly engaging plot)
3) Might and Magic 1 (The amount of graph paper I used to plot that biotch was incredible. There was ALWAYS something new to find.)
4) Bard's Tale 1 (Interface was leagues above the rest for the time period)
5) Ultima 4 (Sometimes a heavy handed, preachy plot, but the first real attempt at a breathing virtual world)
6) Darklands (While bug filled and incredibly unbalanced, the open ended plot and pure depth of characters kept drawing me back to it. Hell, I still have the manuals for it that I peer through to remember how in depth character dev can be.)
7) Baldur's Gate II (The first time I felt if the NPC's were life-like... except when they talked about their hair during the middle of a boss fight.)
Ultima Online
9) Everquest (Wins the award for greatest amount of my life consumed)
10) Star Control II (Incredible detail, wide range of vistas)

Here is my top10
----------------------
1. Betrayal at Krondor
2. Gothic
3. Fallout
4. Fallout 2
5. M&M 5
6. M&M 4
7. Return to Krondor
8. Ultima 9
9. Vampire
10. Wizardry 7
----------------------
Other RPGs I played and donīt consider worthy of a place in the top ten are for example:
Planescape, Baldurīs Gate, many Ultimas, Lands of Lore 2, Daggerfall, M&M 6-8, Wizardry 6.
Sometimes I was too young (Ult.3 in Englisch on a C64 is simply impossible for a 12 year old German), sometimes I tried the Games a little too late to enjoy them(Planescape looks ugly compared to Gothic).

i guess ill put in my 2 cents
1: FF5 (SNES version)
2: FF1 (nes version)
3: Diablo 2
4: zelda (NES version)
5: ultima (NES version)
6: Revnant(spelling?)
7: Milons seceret castle (NES i think it qualifies for RPG)
8: DeusEx
9: system shock 2
10: the one i forgot to mention
yeah im a big console d00d. i havent gotten into the PC aspect of RPG till last year.
i gotta give the NES RPGs TONS of praise for many of those were the THOUGHEST RPGs i have ever played. some i havent even beaten; so damned hard.

1. Planescape: Torment
2. Ultima 7
3. Might & Magic 3
4. Ultima Underworld
5. Curse of Azure Bonds/Pools of Darkness (I liked these better than the other gold box games and can't separate them )
6. BG, either 1 or 2
7. Eye of the Beholder 2 (Actually, I remember 1 being rather fun as well, though I didn't like 3)
8. Might and Magic 4-8
9. Forgotten Realms Unlimited Adventures
10. NetHack, ADOM and Angband
Not sure if no. 10 are really RPG's but they are pretty close and I have spent as many hours playing them as any new RPG. |
