I can get either Arcanum or Gothic. The last rpgs I played were BG2, BG2 TOB, and Icewind Dale. I enjoyed them very much. Which game do you think I should get, and why?

I enjoyed them both - considering the time between playing them and their different styles, it is very hard to say which I liked better. In Gothic, you play a single character whereas in Arcanum, you can have followers. Further, Gothic has a very FPS feel to it and battle is always realtime whereas Arcanum is more traditional RPG style. Both require a fairly high end machine to run smoothly. Both are repleat with bugs - some of them show stopping if you get hit by them although I did not in either game (but many did).

Arcanum provides a greater range of roleplay options to the player (you can play a fighter type or a diplomat or several others and the gameplay will seem quite different) - in fact, there will be story and gameplay options not open to you depending upon how you build your character. Gothic has one storyline - you play that regardless of which options you choose as you upgrade your character.

Both are fun to play - more than once. I would suggest tossing a coin if you truly can get only one. I would strongly suggest reconsidering your finance options (eat light for a few weeks ) and get both.

I with agree Joey here. Both games where great and have their individual merits. But if your iffy on 3D, try Arcanum first with its top-down view. Otherwise, try out Gothic for a really fun time. Both games are very different from the norm of dungeons and dragons. They are unique games that are refreshingly different.

Because of your gaming tastes, I would recommend Arcanum. It falls closer into the family of games that you like. As for myself, though I played all of the game you mentioned, I found Gothic more to my liking, cause I like to control just one person. If you would have mentioned Ultima 8 or 9, Redguard, or any of the other single player RPG's I would recommend Gothic. Stick with Arcanum.

I played Gothic first, and I'm playing Arcanum now. Both games are really great, but I like Gothic more.

They're really nothing alike. It's sort of like asking if you should play Quake or Command and Conquer? Both involve shooting things...

If you do like the party based top down view of BG, Arcanum is a good way to go (the graphics aren't so hot, but the story and especially replay value make up for it).

If you like 3d adventure games like Tomb Raider, or FPS... Gothic is the way to go.

Yes, i think i would like Gothic the most if it were lesser bugs, better translated, and a little longer.
