Hey,
I've just started playing the bug ridden Ultima IX again after a long break and I had only played it for an hour or so before getting stuck because of a bug (Now theres a surprise).
I have just teleported out of the Gargoyle dome and am in the underground sewer, I have gone up the lift in the swampy area and pulled the lever to open the portcullis, but when I try to walk through the port cullis it acts as if its still there and wont let me through. Does anyone know of a way around this? Or as a last resort does anyone have a save game just after this point that they could e-mail me?
Thanks |

An extensive walkthrough for the entire game.
I'm sure it will cover your specific problem.
Unless it's a bug ofcourse... |

I vaguely remember some kind of bug regarding that sewer area (you did install the last patch they made, didn't you? ) If all else fails, I believe there's some kind cheat where you can walk through walls and teleport and so forth, if you have enough restraint and willpower to use it for that and only that.
Last but certainly not least, if you want to enjoy this, err, less than classic quality game I sugest going to fansforultima.com and installing the couple of fan made patches.

Don't feel bad, happens to the best of us. I vaguely remember having some trouble in that area too but it's been so darned long.
I did try to install the game recently but could not because I have XP now which it detects as Windows NT and thus refuses to even install. Even though Windows XP has full directx support and also allows you to run games in compatibility mode with 98, the installer won't even give me a chance to fiddle around with it and try. The ultimas never did stand up the test of time very well though, lol remember the old Ultimas and how running them on a faster computer makes everyone run around in super speed like they are on crack?

I remember the Spider Web also. I stopped playing the game for a long time because it was so buggy, then Origin sent me a new game plus the new patch (I think the patch was larger than the game). Anyway I came up to the web, didn't notice it and got mad. I think I took out my sword and just hacked and slashed to relieve frustration, then noticed I had just cut down the web. It looks more obvious after you cut the web down the when it was up. After that, the game played well, no bugs. (that really isn't a bug, only the web isn't very noticable)

I am playing it on XP now with no problems, I'm not even running it in compatiblity mode.
I do have Windows XP Pro, not Home edition, maybe that makes a difference? I dont see why it should though.
