I hope you've seen the update to the WoW TownHall by now:
http://www.blizzard.com/wow/townhall/tradeskills.shtml

So, what are your thoughts about tradeskills? Does this make you excited about the possiblity of smithing weapons for your fellow players, making clothing and brewing potions?

Personally, I love tradeskills. Star Wars Galaxies and A Tale in the Desert hold special places in my heart for the wonderful ways in which player created items can affect the world around them.

Aye, and as a dwarven warrior, the feel of steel biting into gnoll flesh will be that much more satisfying knowing that I had a hand in forging the blade!

To me it kinda depends on the system. I liked the crafting system in UO (that was a long time ago, i dont know if its been changed) where you actually 'use' the items and make something piece by piece. But I hated EQ's crafting system where you throw a bunch of stuff into a box and hit combine... to me that seemed sorta lame

(Why does every assume dwarves are scottish? i am scottish and they all speak exactly the same as me. why has blizzard done this?)

anyway. The tradeskills element looks great. i like how each tradeskill needs another to be perfected. i.e to forge weapons in the smithy you would need the wood from a lodger. so on.(Dont know any else.lol)

I like the idea - I haven't really any experience with other MMoRPGs to compare it with, but I definately like the idea - maybe especially because it seemes picked up right from way the the technical schemes of Arcanum worked ...
I am already cosidering whether to give my human thief Gathering and Alchemy skills ...

Do you get to name your weapon after you create it?

So to say having everyone want a ziBzi-3000 because you discovered how to make a really good Bow. (Maybe not having the 3000 in it though )

I dont think you get to name the weapon but im pretty sure that the name of the creator is branded onto the weapon/item.

Well, I don't know. Personally, I don't want the name of the creator to be inscribed, cause that would be dumber even than the Personalization in Diablo 2

dumb??
because you dont want a feature in the game doesnt mean its dumb!
It would give some history to the game, having the time, place and creature of the weapon branded into it.

I would have to assume that l337 d3wds wouldnt have the patience to start crafting items... I'm not sure what skill level they would need to inscribe thier name but in UO you had to be a grandmaster and that worked out nice.

having your own weapon, that you made alone, branded. why not?
its no like every single weapon of that kind will be branded.

anyway. its not an essential, nothing important at all. but not dumb!

Well, I think it is dumb - I would want to go around with a weapon, that someone else forged for me, and inscribed his name on it (btw, I would go around with the weapon if it didn't have the name of the creator)
And what for potions and other stuff - imagine healing potions stacking in different places, just because someone inscribed their name on the glass.

I'm not sure if people can inscribe names onto any time, I've only seen a screen shot with a weapon inscribed. I admit though, it would be dumb to have potions stack differently. I imagine that if they were allowed to inscribe their name onto stackable items Blizzard would make sure they stack right...

ok, if you dont want someone's name on it, dont buy it...
The way it is on Horizons, it is not an issue at all. just there went you check info on weapon, nobody can see unless you show them.
