"A great story".. well, Neverwinter Nights has the advantage when it comes to story, because it's a D&D game that takes place on Faerun - how can you beat a game-series based on 50 fantasy books when it comes to story?
As for graphics, the NWN graphic is better as far as I know..
It all depends on gameplay, and on how non-linear the two games are.
I'm not saying NWN will kick Gothic 2's ass(it will in sales, but it is not certain it will do so in game quality), but I'm saying that there is no way for any of us to say which game is the best before we try them both. |

Isn't NWN isometric? I don't think that you can compare isometric games to First Person...

Only 15 people? Pretty impressive that you manage to create a game that fast, at least if you compare yourselves to Blizzard who spent several years on Warcraft III, and they've got lots of money.
Hmm.. either Blizzard and Bioware are becoming lazy, or you are doing a great job! |

That's the problem. Big companies and huge teams have huge problems between management heads and investors. If there's like a single ruler (like Gomez) a big team can actually be very effective.
Alternatively small teams can work closer with less internal politics. Unfortunately they don't have the kind of cash for extensive advertising like the big guys. |

hello again..
there are some pros and cons about having a big team and big cash.
as "Erb Duchenne" explained there are some political problems u have to
solve then.
in big companys there are alway some guys who are working in jobs not
really needed (and these are very well paid jobs!!)..
unfortunately those guys think they knew whats good for you
in a small team, wich we are, we can make decisions on our own.
also we can have close contact to our fans and decide what our game will
be.
the good thing about having big cash, is that you mostly will have big time
for your projects, so the quality could be great
a game like warcraft III has a really big amount of development time,
only for balancing the game.
as you know, the balancing in gothic I was not that great. especially in the
end it became too easy for the player.
that was not a time problem for us (we developed the game for about 3
years!), but lack of experience!
for gothic II we only have hardly a year, but i think we can do a better
job know...
also we have a bigger publisher know, who hopefully will promote the
game in a better way.
so back to topic: @ maylander, blizzard and bioware are not becoming lazy,
they only produce quality products, because they have the budget and the
time for this.
nevertheless i think we are currently also doing a great job in being
cost, time and quality effective. im certain, all of my colleagues
are very great people....
so i hope we can finish the game on a high quality level, also when there is
not so much time for it.

I'm sure I speak for most, if not all, when I say: take your time. I'm sure we would all rather wait couple of more months to get a rock solid product that has been "fleshed out," than get it released too soon and end up disappointed.
And you can go tell the upper management and marketing people the fans have told you so. _________________ (@) |

i also agree with you. and i still have some great ideas about some cool
level locations and moods to bring up. also the story wants some extra
time to make things even cooler as they are yet
but no one will pay us for some more month of developing..
and i think its not neccesary to explain, that we have to pay some dirty
bucks, to our publisher, if we do not deliver in time....:-/
i think most time a company publishes a game with bugs, its surely a
question of money...
well in the case of gothic 1 it was also our inexperience in game design and
developing, and team managment, that caused so much bugs..
(im talking about the - not patched - first release in germany...you are
lucky, because the localized versions are already patched :)) and still
these versions do have bugs...
but as we develop GII on the same engine, we now had the time to fix
even "heavy to find"-bugs..)
that is my personal opinion about your statment, moondragon.
and i think its not offensive to anyone, its pretty selfexplaining.
basically we are meaning the same. i'm also a devoted player like u are,
so i like quality games!
its no doubt about it, that i personally do my best to make everyone happy.
and so do my colleagues.
perhaps if GII will be a greater success worldwide than GI, we can do a
better deal for the next project....

But jest aside, I do understand. I am in the business of software development myself. Not making games, but that's even worse. My bosses have no idea how software is made or what's involved, so they go around promising things I couldn't possibly create even if I had a team of 5 people to do my bidding. But anyways, you do what you can and hope for the best.

(NWN is a excellent D&D game, way better than Dungeon Seige) - but it sure isn't Gothic1. Gothic1 is the best!

I just want to say that I LOVED Gothic 1 and can't wait to get my hands on Gothic II!
I hope that Gothic II does get more publicity than Gothic I. I'm sure that it will do a LOT better if it does.
To the Dev's who read this post, I'd just like to say 3 things:
1). Please, don't ever take the "Optional" 1st person viewpoint out of your games.
2). Please, don't ever make one of your games so that you can't make a "Mixed" Fighter/Mage.
3). Keep up the Great work!
