Pretty much every other merchant in the game has the common ones. You'll also find them lying on the ground in every area.

Regular sling stones are laying on the ground all over the place. Better versions of sling ammo are available for purchase. Pretty much every merchant has the standard ones. Merchants that are "deeper" in the game (Rapax, Trang, Crock) have better stuff. The trick I've used (and works much better if you've got two spellcasters with "portal") is to buy all the good ammo when I find it and put it in a chest somewhere for later retrieval. 300 impaling stones get very heavy, so you wouldn't want to carry it around if you can avoid it.

Yes I always bought better munition and though that I always ended shooting with normal stones because of lack of better...
