Where can I get my companions back?

I had some companions recently, and after some time I lost them in the wilderness. So how can I get them back???

P.S. I think all this companions stuff in morrowind could be done much better.

Well, technically you could access them as objects in the console and change their positions to be at your location. But you'd need to work out their internal ids and know the correct incantations.

Are they really necessary? If they're not I'd just ignore them; they're probably too much hassle to locate.

Otherwise, they've probably got stuck behind a boulder or something, or lagged so far behind that they stopped following you when you went out of range. They may even have already been eaten by beasties. You best bet may be just to retrace your steps and see if you run into them.

These NPC's have quests, so I wanted to complete them. Also I lost them before around 400 game days (about 7 normal days), and I've traveled around the whole world map, so it's not easy to backtrack now.

Thanx

P.S. Is there any way to find their id without knowing their names? And what's the command to change their location?

Not that I know of; you've got nothing to start from. You'll need to look through the construction set for them, and get their ids from there.

I'm not entirely sure, but something like this may work:

"npc003"->setLocation 100.43783, 5467.334214, 761234.1245

Or maybe you'll need to do something like:

"npc003"->setX 100.43783
"npc003"->setY 5467.334214
"npc003"->setZ 761234.1245

Where you get the numbers from your querying your own location with something like:

player->getLocation

Or similar. Can't remember what exactly what commands you'll need, but it should be something similar to these - last time I was playing around with that sort of thing I just stumbled across the right methods to call, so they can't be that hard to guess!

Warning: I've not tried this myself, and may be completely off-base here. I expect the id isn't actually the one from the construction set either!

P.S. Come to think of it, if it doesn't screw things up, it may be easier to just spawn new copies of the NPCs - but that kind of things tends not to work at times because of things like NPC data that the original had but the new one doesn't get. And vice-versa. If you want to try it, try something like this:

player->placeAtPC "npc003" 1 1 1

Backup your save before trying any of these, and make sure you're happy that nothing's gone wrong before proceeding.
