Ultima Online - Free

Ultima Online was my first mmorpg about 5 years ago, and I still play it to this day. It's my opinion that even the newest mmorpg's of today are not anywhere near competing with this 2d game. All the new mmorpg's are nothing but everquest clones. Anyways, this is the free shard that I play on removed
They offer a download of the game for you as well. For those of you who are familiar with Ultima Online, the style of this shard is that of UO as it was in 1999. There is a good amount of PVP too.

I used to play on that shard a long time ago. Looking pretty large. It's tempting really.

I may be mistaken, but aren't such shards illegal?

I play rebirth. 1997/98 ultima online clone. The server is designed so people can play the game the way it was ment to be played. If you need help getting started I can help you.

From the UO license agreement part 5c.

quote:
(c) Official Service. Ultima Online has been designed by Origin Systems for play only on the Service. The Software is licensed to you for play on the Service only. Origin does not grant you a license to use the Software for any other purpose. You agree to play Ultima Online only on the Service and not through any other means. You further agree not to create or provide any other means through which others may play Ultima Online, for example, through server emulators. You may not reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Software, including any proprietary communications protocol used by the Software. You acknowledge that you do not have the right to create, publish, distribute, create derivative works from or use any graphics, audiovisual display, software programs, utilities, applications, emulators or tools derived from or created for Ultima Online unless specifically authorized in writing by Origin Systems.

As a result, shards are illegal by definition. Unless you have an official written approval that says otherwise.

Case closed as is this topic.
