Since you only get more experience for things you hit, playing in strictly turn based gives you more XP. However, I don't care much about that. Against rats and such I also use real time and let my followers kill them all. or if I'm playing a mage I just go Diablo-click crazy in real time until I pass out from fatigue point loss.

I set turn base by default so every fight starts turn based. There are certain dungeons in the game where I wouldn't dream of playing real time...

What do you mean with this "more XP in turn-based"?

The way experience is given out in the game you get experience for every hit you land, and more experience for more damage that you do. If you're playing in turn based, your character gets a chance to act more (rather, the NPCs do not act at the same time as you so you have more control over the battle)... you get more hits in than your followers, you get more experience.

Since your followers only level up when you do, it's good to be a 'hit hog' and try and get as many hits as you can. Though there's a lot of experience... A LOT... to be had just by doing quests.

I don't like the experience system in Arcanum. Why should the ogre fighter get more experience than the halfling fighter? He does, because he's a LOT stronger and does more damage. Why should mages get the most experience and advance the fastest (cast fireflash a few times on some sewer rats and you'll watch your experience bar rocket)?

Why should the person who spent all his points on charisma and persuasion to get a large party be penalized because his followers do most of the fighting?

(I had a character with a lot of persuassion who did little fighting himself. He was level 13. The ogre fighter I played in another game was level 24 at the same point in the game.)

It's my biggest complaint about the game.

In any case, you get more than enough experience to complete the game as you go along so play however you want. However, there will be certain NPCs you won't be able to get unless you're a high enough level.

A mage can win the game by himself by level 18. Of course, this mage will be about level 40 or so in reality by the time he gets to the end of the game. Maybe more. The game goes to 50, and some people complained they got there too easy.

Personally, I played a purely evil super-wizard my last time through. I killed everything and everyone in the world at the end. Entire nations crumbled before my might. There were no survivors. I made it to level 43.

So I don't know what the other guys are doing to get so high. My negotiator character finished the game at level 34... mostly because after I tanked out her charisma and persuasion skills, and maxed out her healing magic... I grabbed 1 level of black necromatic for harm (the best damage to fatigue ratio spell in the game)and started cruising up the levels.

I have question:

I am in Black mountain mines and I should search for some new evidences or hints.
I killed everything, I searched everything (or I guess that it was everything), I picked up everything, but when I return, I only have choice to say "I have found nothing new".

What should I search for?

I hope I am not leading you astray - it has been a VERY long time since I played Arcanum so please take what I say with a grain of salt (or any other granular material of your choice).

As I recall, in the mines you ultimately ran across a single survivor Dwarf in a room. He tells you a story (plus there is some sort of monument that tells you more).

If this is the wrong mine, please forgive me.

That's correct. On the second level through a room filled ... I mean FILLED... with kites and kite shamen (and some wererats come running in every once in a while) behind the throne you'll see a door. The door leads to a hallway... it's filled with traps every two or three steps... so put those trap finding scrolls (see invisible) to good use... and make sure you have a healer like Virgil along. Oh, and strip all your characters naked so their armor doesn't get damaged if they walk into an explosive trap.

There's an insane dwarf at the end of the hall... a long, twisting hall. Talk to him, and then click on the stone pillar in the center of the room. That will trigger the next part of the game.

Thanks again, it helped.
There were three doors in one part of that dungeon and I tried only left and right but not middle ones.

First rule of D&D (but it applies to CRPGs as well)... mapmaking in any sort of maze. Always pick a wall and follow it. I choose left. Never deviate. You'll hit every area. Eventually.

Another question:

I should find "Wheel clan", they told me that I need special spectacles to be able to see entrance. So I am wearing this special spectacles all the time, I am looking everywhere, asking people about Wheel clan, but I am not able to find something.

Thanks for help.

If you've been to the Isle of Despair and talked to Thorvald (or killed him and took his glasses and notebook)... the location of the Wheel clan should be marked on your map. The kythorin crystal glasses are used there by walking into a square made of stone with them on.

If the wheel clan isn't marked on your map... you missed something critical.
