I have been developing a large database application for the last 3 years. I am now in the last stages of development and need to come up with a creative name for it.
But when it comes to things like this, I'm about as creative as a dead snail. So I figured perhaps the creative people on the boards I frequent might just be able to help.
The database is essentially an MRP System (Estimating, Order Entry, Planning, Scheduling, Shipping etc.) but also handles an immense amount of quality related data. If you know anything about Quality Standards, my database manages just about all the Quality Data needing to be managed as prescribed by the AS 9100 'A' Quality Standard.
I want to name my application 'COMPASS' and I need some matching words for each letter of that word to describe the application in a way that is interesting, accurate, and makes sense.
If I am unable to do this, I'll have to go with a different acronym. But I thought I'd give you folks a shot.
RULES:
1. One Submission per person per board. MORE THAN ONE SUBMISSION BY THE SAME PERSON ON THE SAME BOARD DISQUALIFIES YOU.
2. You must be able to receive the winning prize via paypal.
3. If two or more people submit the same idea, the person who submit it first (based on date and time of post) will be the only person considered to have submitted it - this consideration will be effective across all boards where I have this contest running.
4. I will award one person $100 for the best submission, whether I end up using it or not.
5. This contest submission period will run for 48 hours from the date and time of this post. I will make a post in this thread when the contest submission period has ended.
6. I will announce the winner and send them their prize no later than Friday, May 14th.
7. ONLY INCLUDE YOUR SUBMISSION IN THIS THREAD. POSTS OTHER THAN A SUBMISSION IN THIS THREAD DISQUALIFIES YOU - EVEN IF YOU HAD A SUBMISSION IN A PRIOR POST, BUT THEN LATER POSTED SOME OTHER COMMENT THAT WAS NOT A SUBMISSION. - If you have questions for me, please direct them to me personally via onlinepersona@ix.netcom.com
8. Submissions making subtle changes to the intended acronym (COMPASS) are acceptable (i.e. changing the C to a Q or dropping an S).
9. I am the sole judge in this contest. I choose which submission I like the best. I decide what submissions are acceptable or unacceptable and I may or may not have an explanation as to why. I could possibly even be rude, intolerant, discriminatory, and occasionally, engage in the dreaded, ‘racial profiling.’ But, 1 person will receive the prize, whether I use their idea or not.
10. No purchase necessary.

COMPact PASSenger Datacore System
EDIT2 -- An explanation: Databases consist of compact data -- as compact as possible to conserve spacial resources (hence money) -- and their data could be considered passengers within a datacore (a term i made up for Artificial Intelligence research purposes) system. Datacore is the combination of the entire A.I. system, consisting of both program code and data -- hence the identity of the an entire system instance can be called a Datacore. I just thought you could use this term without having to give me credit. So that the datacore of your system would consist of the programming itself along with the compact passenger data in which each data instance is considered a passenger because it is in fact a temporary placeholder (or variable structure) within the system and is transferred around the system like a package. I dont know exactly how your system works, im guessing. To observe an Artificial Intelligence datacore theory in action, go see www.a-i.com and try talking to my HAL called Ammon there; he might work or he might not work, he is a work in progress. |
