Double bladed sword. Two handed or two weapons? |
|
This question has bugged me for awhile. Is the double bladed sword a two handed weapon or calculated as two weapons? If two weapons, it's affected by ambidexterity and two weapon fighting, right? _________________ The world is small, nasty and complicated, and everybody dies alone... - Sam Fisher |

It's calculated as two weapons, so all rules that apply when you're wielding two weapons also apply when wielding a double-bladed weapon. In addition, the second blade of the sword/axe is always considered a light weapon. _________________ "Tree stuck in cat. Firemen baffled."--Simcity 3K

Hey man you have to figure out the damege the sword can handle and the amount of damege it can inflect on what you hit with it. That is when you can
calculate what the weapon is capable of. |

A double bladed sword I take it you mean those long weapons with a blade at each end. Those are considered as exotic weapons, you need proficiency in that to equip it and damage calculated as one weapon that requires the use of both hands. hth. |

No, that's not true. The two-bladed sword is considered a two-handed weapon and, as such, is considered by NWN as two separate blades, each doing 1d8 damage. You get an off-hand attack (considered a light blade) to "simulate" a second weapon. _________________ "Tree stuck in cat. Firemen baffled."--Simcity 3K

Does that mean you get a lower penalty for using a two-bladed sword than two one-handed longswords? |

For "human-sized" characters, yes, since the longsword is a medium-sized weapon. I think you also get the 1.5x strength bonus (not sure on this one, though). However, don't forget that you will need an extra feat to use exotic weapons. _________________ "Tree stuck in cat. Firemen baffled."--Simcity 3K

You do not get the 1.5x strength bonus.
The only advantage to using a double weapon is that the off-hand is considered light.
Thus it's a -2/-2 to attack instead of a -4/-4.
Double weapons look cool but are NOT worth it in a CRPG. In a table-top game they're ok... they're size large when it comes to disarm checks, they do more damage than two short swords, they can be used in two hands for the extra 1.5x power whenever you wish (to do so with a longsword you would need to drop a shield... and if you're not using a shield what the heck are you doing with that free hand? Sword and none style is good for fighter/wizards only, who need a free hand to use spell components. Even then they can use a buckler.). _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi
