Movement, can it be changed?

I've been tinkering with several options but I can't get the movement down to anything I like. I like a more basic moving ability like Gothic or Arx. I can get used to being far away since it's similar to Diablo II in that way but I can't get used to the mouse not guiding my way.

Can this be fixed?

Also, is the "right click on the enemy and click on attack" the only way to fight? Again, similar to Diablo II in this way but I thought I'd ask.

I'm struggling trying to get started. I really want to enjoy this game. I can see endless hours of gameplay potential.

TIA ~T

I don't remember if it's the default or if I did a little remapping, but you can set the keyboard up for a standard FPS layout for character movement. That way, the keyboard controls the character and the mouse will swing the camera. I would think that setup would feel comfortable for you.

You don't have to use the radial menu to attack a hostile critter- the default function for the left mouse button is "attack". Left click will always be the most common action for a given situation- "talk" for a friendly critter, and such.

You have made me a happy woman. (Unless I have to map anything.....Dunno what that means. )

I will play with it a little more to see. Thank you so much! There is hope yet!

@dteowner: Ok, I've tried everything in the menu and still can't find that option. Can you or anyone tell me how to fix it? I don't know what "remapping" means or how to do it. I just want the character to swing with the mouse movement, like you described.

TIA ~T

Alrighty then. When the main menu comes up, click on "options". Then click on "controls". This gets you to the area you want. My setup has the character movement and camera movement completely seperate, which might not be quite what you're looking for. I can walk straight ahead and spin the camera in circles at the same time. I think you're asking for the camera to turn the character as you rotate (although you'll still be in the right spot to fix it).

My settings are "top down" (this is where you might be looking for "driving camera") and "enable screen edge turning". Then you might need to go into "change key settings". This is the remapping I was talking about- just telling the game what keys you want to do what. I have character movement set to W (forward), S (backward), and A and D for turning. I think the traditional FPS layout, or mapping, is to have A and D be for strafing, but I put that on Q and E.

Experiment with your changes. There's a button "restore to default" that will bail you out no matter how badly you booger it up.

Hope that helps.

Yes, it does somewhat............Hmmmmmm...............So, is there a way to utilize the mouse to "look?" Like if you move the mouse to the left the character veers to the left? I think that's where I'm getting confused. Maybe I want something that's not allowed.

My keyboard is set up:

W=forwards
A=turn left
D=turn right
S=backwards

I really want the mouse to be used to point the character in the right direction while using the "W" key to move forwards. That way I can use A & D to step left or right. That's more what I'm used to.

I'm going in! I'll see if I can change it again to what I want! If I can't then I'm just going to resign to waiting for G2.

This game is detailed and interesting though...........tough to decide!

I WANT MY MOUSIE!

Ok, so I went back and tried to change a few things and I now 'think' I know what you mean. I have set it up so that I can move left and right with the "A" and "D" keys instead of the "Q" and "E" keys. That seems to help immensely. In a sense it doesn't really mayyer that I can't actually turn with the mouse but I can go the way of the pointer by clicking the ground where I want to go.

Also, the auto attack dealy works like you said.

Although I want the use of the mouse I think I have found a stable medium to play the game.

The next drama will be the weight issue. I've been carrying everything I find so I can sell it for cash money. I'm overweight now. Should I drop things like books and the like? Do I have to read the books? I have all this armor that's heavy and I want to sell it but it's slowin' me down. LOL!

Ok, I've expelled my issues and now it's time for bed. Thank you for the help and for listening. Tomorrow is a new day and I'll be better at researching the NWN sights for more answers!

I won't have time to test it, but I'm almost certain you'll get exactly what you're looking for if you switch to "driving camera" mode.

I don't even think I know which mode I'm on. I will change that too.

Thanks so much for your time!
