It said on the website that there were complaints about the old controls and the trading system, but personally, I loved being able to trade items for the stuff u wanted and the mouse + forward system.

Took alittle time to get use to gothic 1 controls, But i really didnt see a problem with them.(dont know why so many people complained) I was able to master sword fighting in Gothic 1, Im Just glad they didnt change it to much. Its still pretty close to the orignal.

The new controls are clearly better, IMO. And the old combat controls are still there.

G2 has two different combat systems. They can be toggled somewhere in the options menu. Simply switch to classic if you want the old complexity.

IMO, the controls in G1 were the ONLY major obstacle. Not very user friendly, but the game FAR outweighed that small issue. After you get used to it you hardly think about it.

The new controls, from the demo of G2, are MUCH better. The changes are definately an improvement to the game and makes things run MUCH faster.

Again, IMHO.

In my opinion the controls in Gothic were one of it's strong points. Intuitive and fun to use. Combat was the best in any CRPG to date. While I was waiting for the boxed version to arrive from EB games I downloaded a warez of the game and was able to learn and masteer the controls in about 15 minutes with no documentation. I just messed around and read the keymapping page until I had it figured out.

I don't know what to say about people that had a hard time with Gothic controls. maybe they are NSYNC fans. (I'm just kidding everyone please don't get offended I jest merely in good fun.)

dem controls

y0.. they say that gothic II is for begginers and people who has already played the first of the series... so you would think the controls wouldnt be very different and if they are they shouldnt be more difficult..

The only problem I had with the Gothic I is that your sword couldn't hit multiple enemies with one strike. It made combat more difficult then it should of been. For instance when there are two orcs right in front of you a left to right swing should hit both of them. I heard that this is used in G2. Is that true?

I don't think so, but I've heard that focus shifts away from an unconscious person directly, so you can take on the other enemies.

I don't care too much about combat so I didn't notice if I could hit several enemies with one swing, but a knocked-out enemy is out of focus. Besides, you only knock down 'friendlies'... evil enemies are 'instakilled', even with melee weapons.
