| Portal to second level of first town's dungeon is gone |
|
I mapped all of the first level of the little dungeon that is below the town in which one enters the game. I found all the orbs and placed them on the pentagrams so the portal to the second level opened up. Instead of going down right away (I needed healing), I hiked out and rested up. I then did a few other things around town and now have gone back down into the dungeon. The portal is no longer there! I presume this is a bug - but what can I do now? I do not have a save game from before setting the orbs in place - I sure hope I do NOT have to start all over again! I cannot pick the orbs up again and reset them as the game won't let me. Please help if there is any.

There is a door that leads into the room with the stairs, is it unlocked now? I think it unlocks when you create the portal.

No, it is still locked. Either it didn't unlock when the portal was created or it has relocked on the same bug that took the portal away. Hard to say without seeing the code.

*sigh* Then I see a restart in your future. 
As an aside: I still would have jumped through the portal and taken the short-cut stairs instead of hiking all the way out.

Well, since I had never been there before, I presumed the second level was most likely more dangerous than the first level (as it tends to be in games) and I didn't want to just die - so I hiked out.

I saw your post and started a new game just to see if I could repeat your problem and I was in fact able to repeat the problem. If you place the orbs, but then hike out before entering the gate and the next level down, the portal vanishes and the door never unlocks. This is a bug.
The good news is that you really didn't get too far in the game. While it sucks, just consider this an opportunity to start over again, but armed with better knowledge. Perhaps you'll get a better character out of the deal.
Anyway, as with all RPGs, always remember to SAVE, and to SAVE A LOT!

Well, that is nice to know - thanks. BTW, I prefer to see the glass as half empty  .
