Lockpicking

I've recently gained both lockpicking skill levels from Fingers. Now I'm not really sure how to lockpick properly though. At the moment I just randomly hit the cursor keys and I sometimes get lucky. Can anybody show me the correct way on how to do it?

Much appreciated.

Yes. If you´re short on lockpicks you can save before you start and reload when you know the combination.
When you´ve got a feel for the system unlocking a chest is a matter of seconds.

Gorath is right. I saved before each one I picked, wrote down the combination and reloaded and used it. It helps you increase the skill as well. A little cheat, but more like common sense.

I advice you to keep the combinations of the most important chests on paper.
When I start the game a always first lockpick the chest of the smith in the Old Camp, take the raw steel, make crude swords out of them and sell them of.

You have to guess the combination. If you mess up, you have to start over. Simple as that.

Wait a sec. . . Dexterity has nothing to do with how well you pick locks. It's your lockpicking training that's the factor.

I think ServanteS is confused with Gothic II. In Gothic II the dextrity is connected with the lockpicking abilitie.

Don't worry, I've noticed many people who get confused by the Gothic I or II.
