Bilgot's curse . . . indeed !

Well I led Bilgot near the exit of the Valley of Mines. Just at the point where there is the dead Paladin and a rune of Holy Light, he thanked me and I recieved the 300 xp reward.

I then watched him set off towards the top of the hill. Then he just falls off ! I was a bit disappointed there was actually no monster there or anything. I guess it's part of the storyline, poor cursed Bilgot dies on his way out of the pass.

Anyways.. I hope that's what's supposed to happen ?

What if you follow him? It's a bit cheap to see him die just like that

That has never happened to me in the 4 times I've played through the game. Although I've read that it has happened to alot of people.

Everytime I have lead him to the old mine secret path he sits down and rests. Then when I come back in later chapters he is gone.

When you do it are you leading him all the way up to the normal entrance rather than the old mine?

Well I'm not complaining since I looted him

But given the game designer's attention to detail I thought it was odd that there was not a monster somewhere to attack him. Maybe there was one that I couldn't see, due to the creatures fading in the distance?

I stood at the dead paladin & rune spot, exactly where the quest end triggered and Bilgot set off. I watched him walk up the slope, I didnt follow him. I didnt remember exactly at which point I would return to the newworld, but still I was curious to see how far the NPC would go because the dialogue was not very encouraging for Bilgot, pretty much ' hey I let you here but there's still some way ahead and who knows ya might be eaten alive by something on your way home ha ha'.

I think that's the point of them calling it Bilgot's curse. You lead him almost all the way up and he flops over dead from a heart attack or something. If you don't let him stop you until you get to the entrance of the abandoned mine, he lives, like Fifl said. Sometimes he's around in ch 4, sometimes not.

What difference does it make? You finisched the quest got the XP and he's free to do whatever he wants, like fall to his death.

maybe the whole bit of staying in the vally of mines was too much for him .. maybe he had a metal break down and desided to kill him self ?

Actually, if you FOLLOW him once you lead him up there, then he always falls down dead. Beats me why. But if you leave as soon as you get him up there, he'll be OK. Easiest is to teleport to the castle as soon as you get the XP for escort.

But, all in all, it's not the "curse" as such. Simply, in G2 the chars do not cross the "zone lines", i.e. if the char has done what is needed to be done in one area, and needs to be in some other area (i.e. Gorn), then in one area the char "dies" and is moved to special location and in other area, new copy is spawned. So, basically, when it comes to Bilgot, most likely he "left the valley and returned home" when you follow him, simply the char in the valley gets removed and 'dies' If you leave as soon as you get him up and later come back, then that's sort of other possible way of the quest: you see him there and ask him, as to what the heck he's STILL doing there. If you notice, he'll be later gone as well, sort of as he "left home", but, again, in that case also his version in the mines is removed and corpse put into special place. There's such a spot in Valley of Mines and also in Khorinis.

You can also make his curse more realistic by leaving the dragonsnapper that's eating the paladin alive. In that case Bilgot will be eaten by that over-sized reptile when you lead him to the mine.

wow that's evil, man

btw, a friend of mine mentioned that spot with corpses before, but I didn't really believe him, I thought he was pulling my leg. but when he told me about that easter egg in VoM, I started to believe him, but I never found the place...
so if it really exists, where can I find it?

Behind the Orc Wall there's a cave with dead npc's that cross the pass. There are several other topics about it. I never managed to get over the wall myself, but it is possible.

I allready was there, but didn't find the cave. perhaps I didn't look well enough.

but what about the spot in Khorinis? That one has to be extremely well hidden, I don't have a slightest idea where to look for it..

It's suppose to be in an existing cave (don't know which one though) but you can only get there when you "accidentally" walk through a wall.

The cave where people that aren't used are stored (from New World - Khorinis) is near the sun circle. You get deeper into the forest and you should soon come to an opening and some steps i think. Then beneath the steps there is that cave. But im not sure. Someone would have to confirm it. Its a cave where minecrawlers and few skeletons are in. (I accidently came upon it once and saw DEAD Gorn in it. I though OMG ... Gorn is dead. --> Later on I found out what that cave really was.)
