When I have successfully loaded a savgame I can play for a few minutes, then suddenly the game quits to windows. No BSOD. What can I do to fix this? It happens all the time!! I'm going crazy.
Is it a corupt savgame? How do I fix that?
I have Windows Xp pro
AMD XP2100+
Gainward Geeforce4 Ti4400
512 MB DDR Ram
Soundblaster Live 1024 |

1. Use 44.10 drivers
2. Run in windowed mode 16-bit
3. Turn view distance to half
4. Increase texture cache to double the zie (44000)
5. Turn off music
6. Don't make suddent movements in game when there is increased hard disk activity

oozle meant Detonator 44.03.
Either disable sound or set it to something neutral like DirectsoundHW or Miles Fast to make sure the SBLive! is not the problem.
Create a fixed swap file with a size of at least 1 GB.
Immediately after the next crash enter the BIOS and check your cpu temperature.
From my experience these crashes are not normal. Even the German release version was rock stable albout a bit buggy. I played the English version on my AMD machine for 2-3 hours without a single problem. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Hi again.
I have installed 44.03
resized my swapfile to 1200 MB minimum
I ran the game in in windowed mode 16-bit
I used DirectsoundHW or Miles Fast
view distance is at half ( 80%)
music is off.
And it still crashes back to windows!!
My temperature rigth after i turns back to windows ( crashes! ) is 66 degrees celsius. Motherboard is at 54 or something. |

No i meant 44.10. I've found the 44.10 drivers more stable than the 44.03 drivers w/ gothic 2.

Okay, then 44.01 is of course worth a try.
66° C are too much. This temperature isnīt high enough to say this has to be the reason for the instabilities, but itīs possible. Many Athlon mainbards do not readout the CPU temperature from the internal sensor. Instead they use an external one located exactly below the CPU die. The result is an inaccuracy in the range from 20° to 30°. So your real CPU temperature could be a lot higher.
I would say 'healthy' ends in the high 50s under heavy load because this leaves enough reserve to compensate the inaccuracies.
Try it again. Start the game full screen, turn on all f/x. And set both your desktop and G2 to 1024*768*32.
This time leave your case open. Then more air can circulate and the temperature shouldnīt rise as fast. Are the crashes gone or can you play for a longer time? _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

I have frequent crashes back to the desktop too..and not only when loading a savegame, sometimes just during gameplay it throws me back to windows with this error

And resizing swapfile? i'd really like to know how i can do that..i'm getting rather sick and tired of these crashes..especially because after every crash back to the desktop...i gotta wait for that stupid annoying virtual file system thing to load..and that takes like a damn minute if not more....this is getting mad annoying. _________________ All for respect, all for the bread

My method is valid for Windows 2000 and XP.
- Right click on My Computer
- Select Properties
- Pick the "Advanced" Tab
- On the "Performance" section, click "Advanced" button
- Pick the "Advanced" Tab
- On the "Visual Memory" section, click "Change" button |

at least I got an error message from win xp. ( the one you get to send )
I installed 44.10.
I opended my cabin. so that more air would fliw around. still the temp. is as high as it was before. I have some additional fans in my cabin, so it did not change so much.
I enabled music and view range to 160%
I ran it with full screen and 1024x768x32.
It still crashes, but now i get error messages to send in!! (like that's going to happen!!)
I have two of them here. they say something like this:
AppName: gothic2.exe AppVer: 1.31.0.1 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00000001
AppName: gothic2.exe AppVer: 1.31.0.1 ModName: gothic2.exe
ModVer: 1.31.0.1 Offset: 001b99e4
Do this make any sense to you?? |

Unfortunately no. Only a coder could tell you what this means.

Thanks alot...i have a 80 gb HD so i have made partitions awhile ago...so C: for windows and drivers, and D and E for games or misc stuff..shall i change the virtual memory for those partitions to 1024 too?
And what does this really do...does it make the game performance better and less crashes? _________________ All for respect, all for the bread

I've installed the new Via drivers and i already had the Nvidia detonator 44,03's .
getting SICK AND TIRED of these crashes, mostly during savegame loading...i wait ages for this damn game to start only to see it throwing me out again....it's getting ridiculous...the swap file for C:/ is at 1024
everything that was recommended, i did it. my conclusion...
it's a damn bug in the game itself, i hope a future patch will fix this..i never had this with Gothic I
It seems to crash all the time now,...i load my savegame..BOOOM there it goes back to the desktop...i don't know what this can be....but it PISSES me off !!!!!!!!!! _________________ All for respect, all for the bread

You know i did crash to desktop alot. well, some of you suggested that the temp. may be the problem. so I rearanged my fans, and turned the speed up on one of my fans. Now it works fine. my temp felt 10 degrees on my cpu. thath did the trick for me anyway.
so thanks. I cant wait to keep on playing G2. |
