I've been testing resolutions, diff sound settings etc to see where the game crashes.
It seemed that it did not matter which res or sound settings I used, it just popped out to windows when I ran into 3 monsters or more. I even set it to 640x480x16 and HW sound. Crash. Got pissed. And then when I restarted puter for the 666th time, my Audigy drivers were fux0red. Totally. Reinstalled soundcard, reinstalled graphics card (yeah it was fux0red too), applied latest patch to Gothic.
Voila. No more sluggish, no more crashes.
Though I still run it at 640x480x16 and actually with Miles Fast sound thingy. and it works great.
Gonna do some more testing today with 1024x768x32 and EAX2 ... we'll see I guess.

I've got a AMD Athlon 1600+ @ 1.4ghz
512mb ram
Soundblaster Audigy Player
GeFroce2 Ti

Maybe someone will find this info useful.
