It was interesting (surprising?), to note the release dates of the top 10 or so.......pretty old.

I just sugested in other post in RPGDot forum to restrict games in Top 100 to games with certain number of votes.
It is strange when first is Fallout with 397 votes and rating 9.05 and second Shadow Caster with 1 vote and rating 9.

Hey, Danicek, are you talking about the "Compiled Top RPGs of All Time" thread? Shadow Caster wasn't second, and Fallout wasn't first, if that's the case... Although it looks like you're looking at a completely different list

@Wind
Look at the menu on the left hand side.
The second item under "Games".
Top 100

Exactly - this is the list I am talking about. I think it is something like "which game is best for our readers". I just think people look at it like this.

In the Gothic entry you'll find these three entries:

RPGDon has rated 1/10 points: "Too bad unplayable with controls"

RPGFred has rated 1/10 points: "Inane controls of this game make it unplayable"

Flaming Mary has rated 1/10 points: "i can't do anything the controls are terrible"

These were the only "1's" that Gothic received and I believe that they were all made by the same person. None of these users has ever made a single post into any forum at RPGDot. Rating a game low once is an opinion, doing this is an attempt to lower the score unfairly. Looking through the Gothic comments in the top 100 you will find that it's composed almost entirely of "9's" and "10's" with the occasional low score popping up. Then there are these three ridiculous and remarkably similar ratings by users who have never even visited one of our forums! I think that a single "1" vote by this person was sufficient.

Maybe I should go through the rest of the games that I liked and see if this was done there as well. It's too bad that some people can't do simple little things the way they're asked too.

I've already scanned through all of the games two weeks ago. Of course, it never hurts to have someone else look through them to see if something is amiss.

Oops, sorry Val, I didn't know that anyone was actively looking for problems. I only meant to point out the obvious in case anyone with power was interested.

Well, I usually dismissed any score that had a valid comment. The interface was sort of clunky so a person is entitled to have that opinion whether I like it or not. I mainly looked for those who only scored one game, gave no comment, and gave the game a low score. Or those that looked like someone was trying to lower a score on purpose. Or scores that didn't match the person's comment.
Feel free to scan through whatever games you like and report anything that looks strange to you. I'm sure I've missed some things and I scanned it two weeks ago, things have undoubtedly changed some.
Thanks for helping.

I'm glad to help.

I agree with you, everyone has a right to their opinion. I didn't have a problem with any of the low scores except the three "1's" and that was just because they were practically identical. Then I looked to see how active the posters were because I didn't recognize any of the names and surprise, surprise, they had no forum activity at all. It just sent up flags and I remembered that HiddenX had started this thread so I came here to tell someone.

Oh well... I guess that's what I get for being an NFG hermit these days, all the things that are news to me turn out to be old news for everyone else!

A lot of people who have ranked games don't post on the forums. That doesn't necessarily make their opinion invalid. However, those comments are similar, so it might be worth-while to take a look at the IP addresses associated with those user names and see if there is a connection.
Keep up the good work!
