So, my economy is hopping. I've got about 15mil burning a hole in my pocket and it's time to step up to that M6. I've got a save game in place (too big an investment not to be able to pull a do-over if it doesn't pan out).
I bought me a Nemesis, which seems to be a solid boat, and I loaded it up with the best of everything. So I tried out the PSGs. What an anchor. Are these things as utterly worthless as they seem? Maybe I've gotten spoiled with my ion disruptors. Pretty easy to work with, and such a job they do. These PSGs are half a step above worthless! _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

Nothing destroys capital ships faster than PSGs do.
As well nothing shreds a khaak cluster like a PSG does. One solid burst and not only will you break up the cluster ship... you'll destroy all the M5s flat out.
They're fire and forget no brain required area of effect god cannons. They're the most powerful weapon in the game.
I hate 'em and never use 'em. Too easy. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

Are we talking about the same thing?
These klunkers tossed out this little expanding grey cloud. It went exactly nowhere, did a little shield damage, and accomplished practically nothing. All the enemy ships flew right out of the area of effect with nary a scratch on their paint job.
Am I using the things wrong?
I reloaded my savegame and bought a Centaur instead. Loaded it up with a couple beta HEPTs (just like my Nova) and went on a killing spree. Pretty much, it seems like I've got a Nova with better shields that doesn't manuever well. I don't like the pretty lights that come off those 125MW shields, either. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

PSG's are much more lethal than HEPTS. If I recall correctly however, their range is much less than HEPTS ... so you have to be closer in. Beware too, PSG's have a "shotgun" scatter effect so you may hit things you don't want to. It's this extended area coverage that makes PSG's excellent for taking down Khaak clusters.
Now, if only they could patch up X3 to make it as game-content worthy as X2 |

You were likely too close. At point blank range an enemy ship gets hit by the wave once. As it expends it hits the ship with more 'wave'. That's why it's a capital ship killer... each blast hits a capital ship something like 30 times. Their shields drop in no time flat and their hull goes quick too.
At optimum range, about 1.5 to 2k if I recall, they're godly. Nobody can even complete a strafe against you because they're too busy trying to dodge, failing, and ejecting.
Seriously, they're majorly overpowered. No challenge at all. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi
