How to equip weapons?

I have just started playng gothic, i want to equip weapon, but i can't, maybe i dont know how. The weapon reguirements are OK. I open the inventory, the weapon section. What to do then? how equip it?

With inventory open and weapon highlighted, push CTRL + Up Arrow.

Now that weapon is equipped, 1 button should draw your close combat weapons and 2 should draw your long range weapons.

Space bar should draw and sheath you last weapon.
