Ditto. I think it is better than a single player Everquest. _________________ Midiboy

Excellent Game! a few things I would have liked to have seen |
|
So far, this has been an excellent game, so I voted accordingly. It might surpass all others and emerge as the best role playing game of all times, but it is too premature for me to make that conclusion.
There are so many positive things about the gameplay, that to touch on a few would be to neglect several others, so I will not attempt to do so here. I agree with all of the wonderful praise that has already been appreciated in other posts and threads.
So let me briefly mention a couple of things that I would have liked to have seen.
I really would like to be able to sit down, in the least. It would also be nice to see other characters sitting down. After walking into a tavern during a fierce thunderstorm in a strange new town, it would be nice to be able to sit down at the bar and order a drink. Or perhaps, sit down uninvited at the table of another and strike up an aggressive conversation. Wouldn't it be nice to find a bench on a beautiful day, sit down, and then start reading some of the books you have acquired through your travels? Or perhaps sit beside a brook and soak in the scenery. Constant standing seems to be a sharp static contrast to an otherwise dynamic world.
Which leads me to the other thing that I would have liked to have seen, which is camping. I would really like to be able to start a campfire and rest in the wilderness. The instantaneous jump in time from the moment right before resting to the moment right after resting seems distracting. Similarly, if I am standing in a city during a rainstorm and choose to "wait", it is not uncommon for the next gaming second to reveal blue skies with no intermediate animations. Perhaps a quick "fast forward" type effect could take place.
These same arguments could easily be applied to the instantaneous travel that exists in the gameworld. How wonderful it would have been to behold the behemoth bug beast carry me to my destination! But perhaps my imagination is exceeding technological feasibility at this point.
As I said in the introduction of this post, these features that I would have liked to see are easily overshadowed by all the wonderful experiences that this game offers. But for the sake of brevity, I choose to list the few negatives rather than the thousands of positives that the Morrowind CD holds secret.

I pretty much second everything Jamison just said..particularly about resting and about traveling..it was disappointing that there was no "cutscene" type event when traveling on the silt strider _________________ Shifter |

right now it feels like its one of the best rpgs i've ever played, so immerisive. Espically the atmosphere, the caves are so awesome if you have the pixel shaded water, they really do feel like your in a cave if you've ever been in one with underground water. Also some neat things like the weapons actually look metallic, etc. Most games they look dull non shiny. Things i think they should have put in though , like other people, more npc interaction, sitting, resting, etc. Also i'd like the option to use the silt strider and boats, etc in REAL TIME instead of black screen, oh i'm here! i mean that one guy with the boat that looks like your in vience, that would have been so awesome to take that little trip in real time, espically with the cool water. Overall though i feel to immerised right now to keep posting so i'm going back to playing. |

I just got morrowind , and have been plaing for about 2 hours, It's pretty damn, incredible. My copy seems pretty stable. It crashed the first time i played when i hit caps lock, but hasn't messed up at all since then. I voted Best RPG of all time, as I found little to not like, and TESCS is amazing _________________ Ater deus praevalo

I'd say it's the best ever, but I'm kinda new to "true" RPGs. Most of what I've played in the past were more adventure games, and console-types, like Final Fantasy. I'm only into it about eight hours.
Just a few comments, mostly about the graphics:
Don't these people ever sleep (or go to the bathroom or go out for lunch)? It can be 3 in the morning, and everyone's still doing whatever it is they do, which most of the time is standing completely still in a corner of their dwelling. People outside do get around, but they seem to follow a set pattern. I just wish I could break in to the alchemist shop at night and get those diamonds while he's asleep!
People keep mentioning compaints about the graphics. What? The graphics are gorgeous! I've played most of the latest FPS's like Max Paine and Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and this is as good if not better. I can stare at the sky for minutes at a time, just taking in the beauty of it all. Night-time is incredible, with all the stars, and the twin moons hiding behind the passing clouds. Faint pink and purple wisps in the highest clouds signal the coming dawn, which happens so gradually that you don't notice. There is a distinct difference in the sunlight at dawn versus dusk. Dawn is pinkish, while dusk is orange, just like it really is. And speaking of the sun, the way the glare disappears when you move into the shadows is the most realistic yet. This isn't the typical lens-flare effect. It looks exactly like it does when you're looking toward the real sun. The glare can be enough to obscure your vision at times.
While this is unimportant to game play, it's just one of the many things that helps you get lost in the world.
Yeah, you need a hot machine to see all the goodies, but if you do, it's breataking. For the record, I'm running an Athlon 1.4 and Gforce3. I set the shadows to zero, and everything else to max, and it's not jerky at all. I've yet to visit Vesta, or whatever it's called (the big city), so things may get worse there. If so, I'll just turn down my range of vision while there.
By the way, I'm playing with the un-copy protected (cracked) exe that was posted here. I never even tried it with the default exe, but I've heard it makes a HUGE difference. |

I don't have it yet but I'm dissapointed by what people are telling me about the NPC AI. I remember how the NPC's in Gothic had different routines they would follow depending on the time of day. I wonder why they didn't implement that in Morrowind? |

Yeah..that's one thing that could have been better..how many people stay outside all night long and just stand there (aside from guards maybe).
Oh well it is a minor flaw that can be overlooked. _________________ Shifter |

Couple/few comments. I love the game. I think it's the best RPG I've ever played, and I've played a lot of them. However, I take exception to the EQ comparisons, EQ it ain't. Not even close. I played EQ for 2 years, my wife played for 1, and it isn't a comparison. This game so far exceeds EQ that it isn't even funny, and frankly, they aren't even comparable. This game has quests, for one thing. You ever do a quest in EQ? Pretty shitty aren't they? Uh-huh. Even the high level quests suck fat ass, few that there are. If you've played, you know this. Graphics: Obvious that Morrowind puts smackdown on EQ in this category, same with sound. NPC interaction, plot development, story, and AI? Same. In fact, now that my remaining brain cell thinks about it, about the only advantage EQ has is the multiplayer aspect, and frankly, if I wanna chat with ya'll, I'll come on here or see you on AIM or ICQ. And please, while we're at it, let's be sure not to forget the fact that the armor and weapons in Morrowind look absolutely fantastic, especially on the player. How many removeable pieces are there? I forget. A lot. They sure do all look different don't they? And don't they look so kickass, especially when compared to EQ or Gothic (which I thought sucked booty)? It adds that unique touch, and frankly, adds something that takes EQ and bends it over like a little bitch. EQ should be calling Morrowind daddy. No more comparisons. Please. For your own safety.

I am dissapointed. I can not run this game, I will not even try. I have 450 P3, and an old (2 yrs) video card w/ only 32M on it - I have no idea what kind of card.
It is too bad that I can't justify spending the $2k to upgrade the system and play Morrowind. I will just have to wait a year or so...

What is this $2k crap everyone keeps spouting? Does no one go to www.pricewatch.com anymore? For crying out loud if ya just want to upgrade your processor/mobo and vid card it will only cost about $250-$300 if you need more ram you can pick up a 128 meg stick for like $50. It ain't that expensive.
