Dark Light: Article @ HollywoodReporter.com

HollywoodReporter.com has a new article describing Dark And Light's digital distribution methods. Here's a snippet:

In the video games business, "good old American know-how" dictates that the most effective way for a developer to distribute a game is to find a publisher and/or distributor and let them take care of the marketing and stocking of retail shelves.

But "good old American know-how" doesn't necessarily apply on Reunion Island, situated in the Indian Ocean east of Madagascar off the coast of South Africa. That's where game developer NP Cube is preparing to launch the online game "Dark And Light" in December. And NP Cube intends to do it solo, at least at first.

alot of this article seems to be what mythic entertainment thinks of NP Cube's distribution plans. I personally don't care about what negative comments a potential rival wants to make. The articles writer should have gotten more opinions from other sources if he wantted to be at all fair in his writting. Why is it that the "reviews" and "previews" of games written about on almost all gaming websites are so unbalanced? Many of them are nothing more than the ravings of fanbois (at best), or just another kind of payed advertisement, only with a cover of being something impartial. So much for any kind of impartial media (just like whats happened in western "news" broadcasts)

This article is not so bad. You have three differents opinions about online distribution of this title.
Dark & Light could be the first MMORPG I'm interested in since Everquest 1.0, but I think it's indeed risky for NP cube to do online distribution only.
But in the same time, it's an online PC game. So players must have a PC and an broadband connection... So, IMO, they'll have to do a big advertising campaign !!!
