make a decision and stick with it. you don't need to worry about whether it is the right one. you will just have to try harder at first. don't worry about trying to hit all the missions. it leaves alot of replay value if you only do some missions each play through.

Play as a mage, who tries to join both the Mages Guild and Telvanni.

Have the guy at the beginning ask you some questions and go with that.

Those questions are pretty weak... I preferred the ones in daggerfall...

but if you're having a hard time... it's not a bad idea to do that, or pick a class instead of creating a custom and stick with its description.

Wait...

Before all this you need to ask yourself a very important question: How do you want to play the game?

Do you want to play it stealthily and avoid fights? Play a rogue class (Assassin, Thief, etc)
Do you want to be uber powerful and be able to weild the biggest, baddes weapons so you can kill everything quickly? Play a tank class (Fighters)
Do you want to use magic to get yourself in/out of trouble? Play a mage class.

When you've answered this first question, then either pick a class or make one using the skills you think you will use the most. A note of warning though: since you're not really sure what to play as, you may have to try a few classes before you land on the one that plays like you want to. The thing is that the game is played SO differently from one class to the next that you'll really see a difference, and every class may not appeal to your playing style. You'll just have to find that one out for yourself
