Challenge:

OK, so you think you're the best at Gothic? Nothing the game could provide is a good enough challenge? Well, I hope this helps.

Kill a Troll at level 1

Sounds simple, right? There's the old easy tactic against trolls, and you can use it easily enough, no? Yeah, I know that. The biggest problem, however, would be getting to a Troll at level 1 (and just at level 1) and killing him. That's what this is really about (anyway, in Gothic, getting somewhere is usually harder than whatever you've got to do -> it's almost harder to get to a Dragon, than fight him etc.). I believe this can be done, and I wanna see it done. Good luck!

Funny thing. I was thinking about doing just that the other day. Problem is: how do you prove it? I know how to take screenshots, but I read somewhere that you can't post them. Too bad because this 'challenge' thing is a good idea. Well, off to bag me a troll.

Done and done! I have two screenies waiting, one of my stats just after the kill, the other, me standing over the recently departed with a big wooden stick in my hand. The hardest part was running past the wolves. They ARE faster than you! The troll went down rather fast, though. (I think it might of had something to do with shoving my big piece of wood up his a**. )

Very nice, mate. I knew it could be done. As for screenies, there are free hosting sites, like www.photobucket.com or www.imageshack.com . You could always post on one of 'em and link us. But I see no reason not to trust you. (through, screenies are always nice).

transforming can always help you past your enemis, the first time i played G2, I used scavenger and wolf transforming scrolls to reach some of the dragons.

Oooh, I never thought of that actually! Nice idea!

However, is there actually a transformation scroll that is easy to get? I don't remember any selling early on...

Here you are! http://img116.echo.cx/img116/7061/t39sc.png ...and http://img116.echo.cx/img116/8593/t49yz.png

I know, I know, I should have used a dagger, but it was 1:00 am, and I was in a hurry.

Next up, the black troll from the beginning! (Too bad there's not an insane smilie)

Nice console kill. Just kidding. I haven't played g2 for awhile but could you only hurt him with criticals or did he damage with every hit a little?
Certainly no reason it couldn't be done, just a matter of patience.

Only way to do it is either cheat in some way(improve stats, give yourself a lot of stat increasing potions etc) or use spell scrolls(shrink for instance). A trolls' resistance is too great to harm him even with a critical hit(you have 10str at lvl 1, add that with a max 20dmg weapon and you get a grand total of 30 dmg) afaik.

I figured as much, but didn't have the information necessary to say it.
What is the damage multiplier of a critical in g2. I am only playing g1 now and haven['t touched g2 for quite awhile.
later, rordog

Damage in Gothic 1: Str+weapon damage
Criticals in Gothic 1: Double damage
Damage in Gothic 2: Weapon damage
Criticals in Gothic 2: Weapon damage + str(same as G1 normal damage)

At least this is what I think it was.. it's been forever since I did any actual testing though.

The calculations for the damage are as follows:

Normal Hit:
Weapondamage + Strength - Enemy armor = Damage

The chance to do this hit is depending on your skill level.

Random Hit:
1-20 Damage no matter how high your strength, skill, weapon damage or the enemy's armor is.

So it is possible with a lot of free time.

What? Random hit? What is a random hit? I seem to recall fighting a troll in G1(where you could interrupt his attack) for a small eternity without sufficient damage and never even getting his health down at all.
