When you are in your single player game hit escape and select "save character". When you go into the multiplayer game it will ask which character you wish to use, select premade, all the pregenerated characters will come up. Either scroll though the list and find your character, or click on the little box in the bottom left hand corner of the screen that will let you view only your generated characters.

Additionally, you can only join games that allow local characters.
