About processors - amd all the way (paired with nForce )
But if we talk about networking equipment - intel is my favorite (after testing some 3com / dlink / realtek (ueee) adapters and switches).

Since I have no expeience in AMD it will have to be Intel. Another poll might be
nVidia or ATI?
or
Windose or Linux?
DDRram och Rambus?
ATX or ITX?

Got AMD 1.6 ghz at home and a p4 2ghz at work. and since my AMD works more smooth the choice is easy.. but then again.. those 1gb 333mhz ram might have just been worth the price

ITX is a new motherboard. 17x17 cm, built in (or on) cpu, graphics, sound. All you need is hdd and somewhere to put it. Preferably in the trashcan.

Sure sounds like it..
But modding your box to look like a trashcan is not a bad idea actually.. would fit my old computer... hmm.

@hoyp

Yes, it is at least for me and my firend whom I recommended nForce based mobo. Fast, stable and !superb! sound. I wouldn't change it for any other mobo (well, I'll defintely be changing to nForce2 ).

Not too long ago I would have definitely voted Intel. I always thought of any other processor as an inferior product (older AMD, Cyrix, etc) never quite able to keep up with, much less out perform the Pentium chips. And then there were the claims and the biased benchmarks promising to knock the Intel giant off the pedastal, only to be followed up with bugs and incompatibilities. Not too long ago you were an idiot to go with anything besides Intel. Now I am the proud owner of a box driven by an AMD XP chip. Does it out perfrom Intel? Who knows. Was it cheaper? Yes. Is it stable? Yes. Am I happy with it? Yes Therefore my vote goes to AMD...for now.
