Those 1 to 2 years are already over, Daedalus, with several changes of engine... their 'Prey' never came out, either.

Gothic's world, while much smaller than Morrowind's, is vibrant and very much living! Where ever you go in Gothic is unique. All you need to do to get your bearings is turn in a circle because every place is recognizable. Morrowind has vast stretches of sameness so the world becomes dull. Thank goodness for silt striders and guild guides to help minimize the time you have to spend wandering around the very hyped Morrowind land mass!

Rainstorm: Prey was originally scheduled to be released shortly after Quake (the first one). Now go figure...

Daedalus: "heheh personally i think allready the DNF deverlopers are taking vaication on some Hawaii island"

what you mean?, you mean DNF is neary gone gold & the developer team gone for relaxing at Hawaii?.

also, i go to 3DRealms official site's forum & try look out info on DNF but can't access at all or read the post if i do not register first....they're are so mean & rude to us as fans. The other forum are boring with threads/post like "post here everyday until the DNF is release"

50% gone mad?, that's bad news for developer.
i don't know what the marketing or publicity people in 3DRealm doing now.
Duke Nukem is a good game, it's unfortunate if it sequel mess up by bad publicity or by some internal problems.

there's something about gothic & Morrowind

hi guys,

I guess everyone get bored waiting Gothic 2 if not tired gawking at it screenshots. Well, here's one question from me - although Morrowind has many good aspects, i found that one of it shortcomings is in combat system compare to Gothic or most likely Gothic 2 (since developer already promised to improve on it).

In MW, yes, there's several moves to executing combat. For example with dagger, you should move forward to thrust at opponents since dagger are more effective to use in that way; with axes/swords you should side stepping to slash to get a maximum damage; and another thing, if you hold weapons longer before bring down the slashing - it will also do more damage. But, that's all the combat tricks or moves available in MW, so, sooner or later you'll feel bored with all the combat available in MW.

In Gothic, i remember there's ineresting fighting moves, but unfortunately ( ) - it all get spoiled by awkward keys control on keyboard. It always demand precision in pressing the related combination keys with the related fighting moves, and also should be well-timed execution and aiming. This became a problem for me because i usually end up in the snapers stomach while still franticly searching and pressing the required key to executing certain "deadly moves." ( )

There's another problem, while i trying to use sword in close combat, i always pulling up bow instead of sword. It seem to me that the related key (default) for sword is not available and automaticly set to bow instead of sword. It could also happen in other way around - i tries to use bow but i end up with a sword. This is really annoying because when the fast moving enemies such as snaper or wolf attacking, i usually keep pulling out a wrong weapons while the snaper staring gleefully at me or the wolf already chewing off my legs.

I remember i read somewhere in this forum some player said they have no problem at all with control in Gothic, or even said the control is easy, what i'm missing here?

You will draw the weapon you last used...so I always made sure I had sword chosen when I put weapon away.(since it's better to draw the close combat and swap to bow than to draw the bow when you accidently stumble over an enemy)

Yeh i do the same as rainstorm.

Also in melee combat, one tip is to first deliver a blow from the sides, so go right, left, right, left, The enemy is either be hurt, if you havent killed them already attack forward twice, or 3 or 4 times if your on level 2 1 H weapons. Repeat this over and over till enemy is dead, or if enemy tries to swing at you. So its right, left, right, left, forward, forward and so on. if you do this quickly enough and are keep yourself in a position where you can hit the opponant over and over, then it will be difficult for the opponent to deal a blow to you,if you see them taking a swing, then perry imidietly and get back in control ASAP

thanks guys for the tips.

Anyway, my main point is why Gothic use that kind of wired/bizarre keys control?. Nowadays in most games we always use point & click and several simple keys but personally i think that's not the case for Gothic. Don't you guys feel the control is rather difficult than usual?, or it's only me?

Yes...sadly, the control scheme for Gothic was rather retarded...
