Are there any nasty side effects to this bug?

I went to trian my one-handed weapons from 20% to 25% and instead my skill went to 35%.

Sounds like this is a new one.
If you have a save close to it you should go back. Otherwise ignore it. If there are side effects you´ll find out soon, I guess, but I doubt it.

Yeah I have a save about 10 mins back before I went to train. I guess I'll keep on playing and see what happens.

Edit:

Well I feel stupid now. A sword that I have equiped has given me a 10% bouns to one-handed weapons. Heh I didn't even notice that it did until I went to equip something else.

Unequip it and check whether the price for the upgrade remains the same. AFAIR G2 wants your 2 sword skills to be roughly on the same level. It´s been a long time, though.

No, you're memory is right. The cost to raise my one-handed weapons goes up with the sword equiped.

How frustrating it was to realise that you had just paid too much LP, because you had forgotten to unequip that weapon/ring/amulet.

LOL yeah I almost made that mistake myself. Luckly I caught it just as I was going to train my skills. I'm curious; is there a work-around to the need to raise both one-handed and two-handed at the same time? It seems like a real waste to me to have to raise my one-handed weapons when I don't even plan on using them.

No workaround. It was a decision for realism. A one-handed sword master has at least mediocre knowledge of other sword techniques.
