How do you know this about perception? It is very interesting. I usually play a party with at least one high perception character...is this why I have not experienced the money problems others seem to have?

I don't think that is what perception is for...My friend and I are Might and magic crazy fan, we started play M&M6 and continue playing 7 & 8 than skip legend of might and magic.

What we know is that perception is to escape from trap damage no such things as getting more item in chest, getting more item in chest have to depend on luck (I think...), I mean your luck not charater luck

I always have one person learn perception, so when got trap the other 3 die except him than he can town portal to a town where there is temple. Heal than go back again.

I agree. That's why I'd like to know the source of Dare's info. Although it is a new system, and NWC could've changed the rules.

BTW - my favorite use for Perception is trap avoidence and hidden door spotting, with out it the games (6-9) is *much* harder.

This was something a friend of mine pointed out to me. When I tried pumping my perception to high levels on the character that disarms/opens the chest I noticed I was also getting more items.
Previously I only recieved 1 item per black chest, now I seem to get more.

There was no "official" source so I suggest you try it and decide for yourself if it helps or not. It's my opinion that it does, significantly.

It is very random, but I usually get at least 2 items now. The most I have gotten "so far" is 5 items. (2 artifacts, 1 black potion, 1 semi-good crossbow, and a high level spell)
Before I pumped my perception skill I only always got 1 item.

Your mileage may vary so I encourage you to try it yourself. If nothing else at least you won't miss any hidden switches/traps and you will dodge the ones you can't disarm

If you will recall from the earlier games in the series there were often items just laying on the ground in many areas that you would never see if you didn't have a perception skill high enough. I think it was 6 or 7 that I found perception to be very valueable in dungeons and outdoors for finding some of the better items like Decks of Fate.
It is also logical that it would apply to what is found inside of chests. If someone went through the trouble of putting such a nasty trap on it then they probably are going to go through the trouble of hiding the best items inside among other less valuable items.... Or possibly disguising its location with a hidden panel or something.

Just my thoughts.

I use wizard eyes to find deck of fate...not perception, The higher the level of wizard eyes the more things you can see. Normal level can only see monster and peasent, than expert can see where is chest, master see where is the valueable things that is lying on the floor.

That's what I think

By the way, no harm learning perception after all, good for health not bad.

Yes, and what else are you going to do w/ a Ranger? Once he/she has become a GM in bow and a master in Disarm there is not a lot left to do wiht the character...so might as well GM the perception.

As a gag, I pick up ID Moster to master level, and it doesn't seem to work. The 'g' key only gets me the name of the monster. Any suggestions?

Make sure you have the character selected with the Monster "id-skill" when you hit the "g" button, otherwise you will only see the monster-name.

I have tried this. It seems I just wasted 28 skill points. I am going to assume the problem is linked to not being able to remap the keyboard. Every time I tried this I got a locked system.

BTW did you know that 1+2+3+...+n = (n+1)n/2? This is a very useful formula for RPGs.

Well, I also tried boosting a characters Id-monster skill to master level, and I was able to see most monsters current and remaining hitpoints only with this character selected, but not their resistance to different magic elements. So, I think it is a waste investing in that skill.
BTW the King dragon got ca. 40000 hitpoints

I have not tried picking up the skill for all the characters in the party. That might solve the problem, and at this point all I would be wasting is time (I've got an very large bank roll at this point).
