It appears to me the game is very non-linear. I was walking along, just south of the farmlands, and I came upon an encampment of soldiers, I mean there was soldiers everywhere. I walked into the camp and then the game went to a cut scene showing some monster to the west (still in the camp though) saying something about, "we meet again" and then he cast some sort of mental spell over all the soldiers and he gets them all to attack me (there must be fifty of them). I haven't met this monster in the game yet and apparently I did something out of sequence. I noticed in the early part of the game when I turned the dragon statues (prior to be given the quest) and the game locked up. Several times now, characters have said to me (on our initial introduction) about how well it is to see me again.
Other, than being non-linear the game is pretty good though. This rambling on my part is just a comment.

I think there is way to avoid killing all the soldiers; anyhow i slaughtered all the soldiers before i figured out later what the hack is going on...

Kill first ask questions later...

I was scared I'd done something seriously wrong at that part, so I re-loaded and stayed away!

Same here, but I went back later to kill them all anyway. It's scary when it's one of the first places you go.
