ok so here what i think is going on .. even though i would like to belife in this alternate ending im starting to think it might not be there

one way or the other all the info we got so far seems really sketchy
not even the location of where the cave is supose to be seems to add up
some say wooden steps by the sea other that they got there through a cave

however wulf im not accuseing you or anyone else of trying to pull the wool over our eyes although it wouldnt be the first time

but i think you might have imageined it or dremt it maybe ..
or even found one thing and then after along time it got mixed up whit a few other things
these things can happen when you play a game for the first few time
even happened to me .. to the day i am still looking for a wrinch by the bandits up by the troll canyon ( not the one leading to the focus )
but its no where to be found and the memory i have of it is so faded and sketchy that it might as well have been the in the troll canyon
or it might just have been a dream

but say still say that we should keep looking cuz you never know
i'll look on .. how ever i would like to see some cleare info from wulf
the last part was really a let down
quite holding out on us made

@Rordog, thank's for the moral support, i would not expect any other players to hang-on with this quest, it is indeed a "nightmare" task, if i had not previously done the quest and was asked about the old man, i also would doubt it existed. Can you imagine if it was me who began this thread and not wolverine_men? - - i would assume it to have faded some time ago.

@IGiveItToYa, welcome to the forums, I want to thank you specially for one thing, that you have expressed your view, your disbelief in this, in a "humane" manner, not like other disbelievers, - - it is noticeably strange when reading over this long thread, that some of the most "ardent" gothic fans, the ones with great knowledge of the game, the ones "most capable of solving this quest, are the disbelievers themselves, i have logically, not come to terms with this as yet.
I find no problem with enabling the transform to demon-lord animation, its in the game, have another look, let me know if you need help on this. The 1.08j/k (international) version of the game (this came after the original german version) contains this extra "der fremde" patched info, therefore it could only be "slipped-into" the original gothic storyline, so logic has it, that the gothic storyline stays "original" with cromanin as "optional" so as not to disturb any of the "originality" - or to put it simply, "it's in your game".

@titus, i see you have not faded in your support - thanks.

O.k, wolverine_mens deadline has passed now, that itself removes some, "holding back" - - so here goes, this has been touched-on before.

I do not know who wolverine_men is, but i will tell you my own thoughts, i suspect he is indeed connected to, if not one of the game developers, who having created a work of art, cromanin, cannot find it in his/their hearts to reveal/give-away fully, the details of this "masterpiece" that hasn't been completed, what dismay, shame on us all, it was made for us! - yes us! "out-and-out" pure gamers who could take the challenge, but there are none capable, even though this has been made for "our" enjoyment, after spending our money on the game, it is "us" (well a lot of us) who are the scolders !!! - hiding this puzzle in the game-data in such a way that no "fiddlers" - "meddlers" - "messers", could open the code and cheat there way into the quest, which is fundamentally a quest of faith, of righteousness - if it cannot be enabled within the game, then it cannot be done, brilliant. This method has indeed made some players angry, irate, that even with their own knowledge they could not cheat, ahh! - surely a "real" test of of faith.

What strength of inner resolve/spirit must wolverine_men have consumed, to be able to give bits of info/clues so as to help us with this, his own "nurtured-child" of a quest, he did help us gently along whilst at the same time being stoned by the scornful disbelievers, he has my true and utter respect.

For me the quest goes on, for however long it takes, until that unknown sunny day, when running along the cliff-tops, in medium shadow's armour, with my 1-h berserker sword and lightning fast bow of death, when once again i see the wooden steps leading down to the cave where the old man patiently waits, - - what an unbelievable fantastic game the original gothic game is, sleeping there on many a p-c's hard-drive, waiting - - - ever so patiently "for the ones who are to come, i hope they're coming soon"

P.S this is page 27, view 1441 not 10441.
P.P.S This is no "wool-pulling" is is the truth, but it is so hard.

Hello!
I have just registered but I have been reading this wonderful topic since it came out. I love Gothic and I love playing and finding this sort of things in videogames.
This Chromanin has really made me crazy! But I'm still looking for the old man, because I believe he exists.
I believe in Wulf's words and with some friends of mine I'm trying not to get the dead body. There is only one question I'd like to ask:
Why haven't we seen Wolverine man since Christmas?
Until Christmas I used to look for new posts twice a day but I didn't expect Wolverine Man to reply. But Christmas has gone and I'd like him to write something about the riddle, because he's the only one who knows how to find him;

@Wulf: I believe in what you say but for this mission all the gothic players must work together and if you said what you did and how you failed we'd not do the same things and we'd have more time to spend on trying new things;

I also wanted to ask if you think that the golem place at Ur-Shak's ruins is linked to the Chromanin quest.

We must find the Riddle!!!

Welcome to the forums, 999999999,

Wolverine man has helped us all the best he can without giving the game away, people scorn him when he posts, this is for us gamers to solve, we own the game don't we ?
All work together? - - yes, i suggested this a long time ago, but it didn't quite work out like that.
The citadel ruins - - many questions, 1> why 2 switches? 2>why a second stone golem with another heart? 3>why must you kill the stone golem in the basement before Ur-shak will speak? 4>why the dialogue "Ur-shak looking for own ulu-mulu, maybe Ur-shak go home soon with own ulu-mulu" ?- why does he say this on last prompt in citadel and yet/or also at the bridge entrance to orc town? 4>must you kill the orcs attacking Ur-shak? 5>can you get to the citadel without killing 1 orc? 5>why no stone golem in citadel basement prior to Ur-shak meeting? 6>is there any need to use a spell in the basement, if so which? 7>is Ur-shak "the dying orc warrior" re:Xardas? 8>can you return from the orc temple back to Ur-shak without killing his people or his brothers? 9> should you be getting the second cromanin book at this point (1st 2nd or even third visit)?
I've tried them all in various sequences, there is nothing noticably different.

Good luck.

It is simple to join a site with as many accounts as you have proxies(which there are billions of proxies), so if Wulf and WM are the same person it is nearly impossible to find out. Without help from law enforcement and ISP cooperation it IS impossible if you know what you are doing.

Another option I mentioned in an earlier post was that WM was part of, or close to the dev team and was instructed to come here, so their baby could be found. While still possible, I highly doubt this is the case. A simple post by NicoDE would have confirmed Chromanin exists BEYOND doubt....or even a reply to emails would have done it.

@Uocjat, what you say is right on, yes i like a good joke - same as many other guys, (i see that pc-hero in yellow guards armour is still waving) - but no, this quest is "deadly serious" - i want to see this quest over and finished, and then take a long break.

@maic_ro, the horn on the orc throne, this is "most" interesting point, this has heavy implications to this quest, many previous forum replies, when asked about this say "it doesn't do anything" (well they didn't know about this quest then did they)? i am aware that when people go "hunting" like fox-hunting, they blow the horn. (happy hunting)!!! could it be this that calls on the gods? - time will tell, it is still on my "to do" list, and, it is listed as a *quest item* - now where could you blow this horn. ? - ? - ?

i have an idea about the horn .. working on trying it out right now as a fact ..
whether or not it'll work only time will tell .. also i think wulf should be able to answer this next one .. if you look through the vdf files or the pc_rockafeller for that matter you can find an orc statue ( not the one on the colom in the orc town ) .. can this be found in th game ? or is it just another forsaken plot they didnt have time to finish ?

Hi! When I got up this morning I began to look inside Gothic files of the German MDK. I found BAU_940_Riddler.d which contains data about "The Riddle" but he's dead at waypoint ow_fogdungeon_36. There is something strange: In the file he has 64 hp, so where is the file who makes him dead???

Another strange thing: I didn't found anything about the books, which is impossible because if in that version there is the Riddle there must be the books too. Perhaps it's only my fault in searching. If you've got the mdk try...

There is also another thing: When you read book 6 you hear strange sounds and voices. They seem to be demons. Later you meet the skeleton mages and the skeletons. But it seemed to me that the words they speak were
something like "YOU HUMAN WON'T NEVER LISTEN TO OUR MASTER STRANGER" I'll try with an audio editor to clean the file and separate the frequences. Maybe I'll find something useful for the quest.

If what I think they say is true, maybe the demons are servants of the stranger.
There is also another possibility: "The place where all began" (book 5)
(I don't know in English because my game is in Italian. I tried to translate)
It' could not be the fog tower. And if you go there you find the corpse. There could be something more you have to do.

@Wulf: How many books did you have when you found the man?
I don't remember but I think you spoke about having 3/4 books.
But WM said to have read all the books.

Where is Wolverine man. He could show up and give some advice!
We don't even know if he is still alive. (if "Heee's stiiill moving"" like a digger in Old Camp would say). This afternoon I'll search again for the Riddle.

Good Luck!

@Uocjat,

Can't check on it right now (no marvin) but if it's a mesh/model, it can only be the orc statue that you see in some of the guru's & novice's huts in the swamp camp.

The biggest, the best, most nearest clue/idea i can suggest on this is, wait for it, - this is where i am in the game at the moment, - use the horn at certain locations with several different permutations of the focus stones, well it is mentioned in the almanac! - and you do get the almanac back from Cor-kalom

"but only a chosen few have the knowledge needed to recharge a used focus stone. This formula of days long past serves as a sign of the high gift.
"now, oh knowing one, open your mind to the words of the ancient power"

edited. sorry 999999999, i just saw your post, will get back later.

well my idea for the horn was a big bust .. i was hopeing it had something to do whit a chest i found in the cave under the ring of stone .. its in the wall on the right of where you get in .. havent been able to get to it whitout k'ing
well back to the quest at hand .. one question though .. how come a few people was able to find the old man by chance but now .. a whole lot of people cant find anything when trying .. just bugging me thats all

mmm that is strange, but why would wulf be so convinced if it wasn't true? I don't believe it is all a mindspin he had. I think I am going to start searching soon too. There has to be a way to find it. about the phrase: Where it all begins? isn't it maybe an other place than the fog tower? Like where the games start? or somewhere close to the Sleepers tempal?
