Do I have to be a certain level, use a special attack or weapon to kill some beasts.I hit the lurkers over and over again and they take no damage.

I've found that some of the higher level creatures block your attacks very effectively.

Bide your time and look for an opening when the creature is vulnerable. This usually occurs when they are just about to attack you or after you block their attack.

Also, some attacks are more effective than others. I've found that side to side attacks work well against lurkers, while straight attacks and combo's works well against slower foes.

You are not strong enough! Strength directly influences damage.

Gorath is semi-correct.

But like Debris said, side-to-side attacks work better on strong animals.

They take very little damage from weak swords, but you'll kill them eventually

My advice is to use a Bow or a Crossbow. Even a 12 damage Bow deals more damage than a 30 damage Sword.
