My Two Cents Early Divine Divinity Verdict |
|
It's bliss.
It's BEAUTIFULLY designed. These guys really sat around the conference room table and asked a lot of good hard questions.
It's really pretty.
It combines the fluidity, playability and immediacy of Diablo with the richness in story, character interaction, dialog, and quests of a Baldurs Gate game. My friends, that is a very good combination indeed.
There are tons of interesting skills. Enough that I decided to play as a tank, rather than as a Survivalist (rogue) or Wizard. Even the tank has lots of cool directions he or she can go.
Icewind Dale II is just going to have to wait a few weeks.
My ONLY criticism so far -- the don't make nearly enough use of the Right-Click in menus. Plus the translation is RIFE with misspellings! But that's really searching . . .
I was afraid that this game would be a lame attempt to copy successful American RPGs, but this team really did its homework.
In a year of compelling RPGs, this just may be the winner. |

Yeah, Divinity does loss on originality - but i think Divinity never set out to be an original game IMHO. Larian Studios did they job seriously, and a successful one in copying (maybe as homage to Ultima series ), and even the copying is not a bad idea when the game came out as a very entertaining game! _________________

I'm shamefully ignorant of the Ultima series, so I'm sure I'm missing the elements of it that are similar.
BTW, I've read that Arx Fatalis actually WANTED to be an Ultima Underworld game. The licensing just didn't come through. But evidently it's very reminiscent. |

The interactiveness of the world is straight out of the Ultima series. Being able to more objects was something very few games have done. I thought it was great having to move tons of barrels to get into a room. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

I never play Ultima series either , so i only can compare Divinity to Diablo or Baldur's Gate series. I found out that several game reviewers also only said Divinity is a Diablo clone - which obviously showed how inexperience they are/lack of knowledge or never played Ultima series.
Whatever, Divinity is a fine game even without a big budget compare to Dungeon Siege (which got some money from Microsoft if i remember correctly). _________________

@Gorath: That may be so, but I didn't see it in any of the software stores I visited today. I don't believe release dates until I walk into a store and see it on the shelf.
@Dhruin: I think you have me confused with Jaz. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!
