The final solution to my game-related problems was to raise VCore voltage by 0.05. It helped in my case, don't know if it would help anybody else, but trying would still be an option.

overclocking

overclocking the powersorce would make a difference for people who arent having a problem because of system specs.

I tried everything as well... my system OUGHT to have been good enough. I tried everything from reinstalling, patching, getting different drivers, adding RAM to exchanging the fan... hardware, software, everything.

But of course, it was my special computer and problem.

sorry i must of been half asleep my post doesnt really make sense...
what i ment to say is that overclocking the powersorce
would not fix anything for people who meet or exced "recommended" req's for the game...
myself my system is almost double the req's for the game, and thus overclocking wouldnt help...
Not trying to put anyone down... just trying to let people know what wont work... god i would love to fix this game.
the problem is that this bug that seems to be with any combo of a geforce or radieon 7500+ board and windows me or xp... and also appears to be different for almost every user.
I have been emailing everyone at pb and xiact or whatever... and i heard back from pb but they just gave me a generic reponse and i replyed asking for more.... well time will tell...

Game freezing after Piranah intro

I had alot of problems starting Gothic. It would play the opening movie then freeze. What I finally worked for me was to make sure that my desktop resolution was the same as the resolution that I was running in the game. i.e. I was playing Gothic in 1240x 780 but my desktop was at 800x600. I changed my desktop to 1240x780 before I started the game. I haven't had any problems since

I just bought the game myself and I can't seem to get past the screen in black and red with Gothic in the middle. I have to ctrl, alt, delete to close Gothic down because it's not responding. Any clues why?

P3 450
256 ram
Windows ME
3D Prophet II Titanium 64meg vid card

Thanks.

Same issue here

Just bought the game this evening, after reading the reviews. As posted by others... I get as far as the "loading" splash screen; a black screen, and no further....

This game doesn't have a timer in it, by chance? You know... a "post Millenium bug"?

Well, I'll keep an avid eye on this thread in the hope of finding a solution. (Have a 7 days before I return it to EB... a downgrade to "dungeon siege" )

Thanks in advance.

PS: The idea of rebuilding/reinstalling everything from scratch is a joke solution. This game wasn't coded by M$!

Specs:

Processor: AMD 1.33GHz/266 (running @ 1.20GHZ/100)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-7DXR (RAID disabled)
RAM: 512 MB PC2100 ECC
Gfx Card: Leadtek Winfast A250 ULTRA (GF4 4600)
OS: Win98SE
DX: DirectX 8.1
Gothic: v1.08K

All drivers are current, and 98SE is patched up the wazoo.

The game crashed at the loading screen the first time I run it, but no problem the second time. For me, when ever the program crashes, I just close the window and restart the game again. It usually works on the second time.

Hmm... Need to rephrase that to, "I repeatedly get as far as ..." Sorry.
Crashing the PC can't be too healthy... atleast not this often anyway.

same. Run once, nevera again.

Ran once after install and ran well. Played for a couple hours. Took a break, few hours later, freezes at the end of the PB logo thingy or if I hit ESC to skip it.

My game also crashed repeatedly after the splash screen; now I'm running in windowed mode (look in Gothic.ini for something called zStartupWindowed) and it runs fine.

Just install Direct X 8.0 and all your problems will be solv

Hey everybody,

the game was made for Direct X 8.0. so just use that.
The newer versions of Direct X just end up screwing everthing up.
Trust me, I has crashes all the time until I installed the older version of DX.
