Bargain Hunter

I just bought Divine Divinity, Hostile Waters, Shogun: Total War and Messiah for the princely sum of £10.99. Now I just need time and disk space to play them (2.5G for DD... ouch!)

This might be helpful to other UK gamers: some branches of WHSmith are selling off Gamecubes for £19.99. Get 'em while they're hot. Unfortunately, my local branch sold out before xmas and never restocked but then I don't really have time for one right now...

Yeah, I think Shiny have gone off the boil a bit lately, but their old stuff is cool. MDK had some fantastic ideas in it, and was great fun. I played the demo of Messiah long ago, and what I saw there was well worth the 99p I payed for it today. It's just so weird.

I'm going to have to get myself a Gamecube at some point... Zelda: Wind Waker looks too good to miss. And I would like to try Eternal Darkness too. And Super Monkey Ball... and PN09... and Viewtiful Joe...

I got Fallout/Fallout 2 in a compilation pack for like.. 129 SEK. That's less than 10 british pounds.. and around.. uhm.. 18 american dollars.

I also got Diablo for 39 SEK (3 british, 6 american), Soulbringer for 79 SEK (6 british, 11 american), Omikron The Nomad Soul for 49 SEK (Less than 4 british, 7 american).. The list goes on.

Oh and I got a really cool box, complete with cloth map and lots of goodies, containing Ultima IX: Ascension for 99 SEK! (Less than 8 british and 14 american)

Guess I'm a bargain hunter too!

Hey, I need to start importing from your neck of the woods! UK shops don't tend to be that generous, importing is often cheaper even including postage. That goes for games, DVDs, even hardware. I'm thankful PC games don't use those despicable region-locks.

I put off buying Planescape:Torment for quite a long time, I'd just played BG and had enjoyed it, but I'd had my fill of it... I mistakenly thought PS:T was very similar and stayed away, despite all the great reviews. Then eventually I thought I'd give it a go when I saw it bundled with Freespace 1& 2, all for £15. I couldn't believe how wrong I'd been about PS:T... that was a good deal, even though I still haven't got round to playing either Freespace game - I kinda wish I'd paid full price for PS:T when it came out .

Now that I think about it.. It is actually easier to name the few games I have bought full price! Maybe I'm not a bargain hunter, I'm just plain cheap?!

Anyhow, I bought Gothic 2 for 374 SEK (29 british, 53 american), Gothic 1 for 445 (imported from the UK and not exactly cheap, 34 british, 63 american), GTA Vice City 399 SEK (30 british, 57 american) and so on. Now, notice how I only mention the games I was satisfied with. I also bought Dungeon Siege though but somehow my brain refuses to acknowledge that fact so I have no clue what it cost me.

I always used to buy the Looking Glass games at full price, and was never disappointed. Didn't even have to wait for a review. Can't say the same for other titles... I'd enjoyed Daggerfall a lot, and so awaited Morrowind eagerly and snapped it up full-price via mail order at the earliest opportunity - and then got sick of it rather quickly. Not a bad game, just not my cup of tea.

And, many moons ago, after following the development with great interest, I bought Descent to Undermountain at full-price

I remember buying Gothic 2 the day it came out for the guts of £30. Around Christmas I see it in Game going for £5. I was just a tad annoyed at that! It was worth every penny really.

Deus Ex, Thief 2, and Warlords Battlecry all for free with my January issue of Computer Gaming World.
Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption for $10.
Gorasul for $5.

Evil Islands for $17 from the RPGDot online store.
Geneforge 2 for $25. Worth every penny.

Ooooh! Anachronox for 5 bucks? That's great - know if the RPGDot store ships worldwide? (lazy, I know, I should just check myself )

That's one of those games I missed first time round... tried the demo though, and it did look quite... unique (in a good way).

They sell games through Amazon. If you click the link from the RPGDot store to the game on Amazon and purchase the game, then RPGDot gets a cut.

So, for Anachronox click here. You'll want to go to the Amazon UK link. Looks like you can pick it up for £5.89.

If you search the store, you can find quite a few nice deals.

Anachronox is a great game once you get into it. It starts a little slow. I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, we don't get too many bargains down here; most games are around $100 and Amazon don't ship games to Australia!!
