Disco is alive and well. Its essense is used in a lot of Punk (the Offspring's latest has a heavy disco element) and is the foundation of all techno/rave/dance and all its derivatives.

Disco is alive and well, and evolving. To name but two current influences, Jamiroquai play a very funky style of disco, and the "Light Years" album by Kylie was very much traditional disco material.
Best disco track ever: The Trammps - Disco Inferno. Burn, baby, burn!
