Blank screen problem

Hi,

I have been trying to fix this problem with gothic 2 for a few days now without success.

After installing an old ATI driver and finally getting the game to start, I now find that after the intro screens the screen goes black. I am geting the sound and can even interact with the game but there are no graphics.

This seems a common problem from what I've read and I've tried all of the known fixes like disabling anti aliasing, changing resolution in the ini file, different refresh rates etc but no luck.

My graphics card is a Radeon 9000.

Any ideas?

Well... It's maybe a kind of bug. I have one too. A video called ,,orc attack" (when the orcs attack the castle) is stop after about 8 seconds. I couldn't do anything, there's only one way, press esc, and you won't see the video. (if you press space, it will only pause) Unforunately i can only think to a bug. But if someone have better idea:
I'm listening!

Welcome to our forum!

If you can interact itīs probably a driver issue. I looked it up. The recommended driver for older ATI cards is 3.9. In other cases like this the problem was that the driver and G2 didnīt negotiate the gamma correctly. For whatever reason G2 thinks you set a low gamma value.

Possible solution:
1. Install the ATI Tray Tools or a similar software.
2. Increase the gamma value using Tray Tools.
Colors/Settings/Gamma -> move slider -> click Okay.
3. Make a backup of the gothic.ini, then delete it.
4. Start G2. Leave through the normal menu.
5. Open Tray Tools, reset gamma and press okay.
Now the problem should be fixed.

I rolled the driver back to 3.9 but my system wasn't happy with that and kept crashing.

4.2 allowed me to play the intro movies at least but to be honest I think the card itself is the issue here rather than the drivers.

I took the ATI card out and installed a crappy old 64mb nvidia card in the end and it's running fine albeit poor performance (to be expected with this card).

I may give your suggestion a try too at some point. Thank you
