Arcanum character question |
|
Hello. I'm not sure if anyone remembers me, but I think some of you in here got me to try Arcanum for a second time...well...I gave up. I just can't fight in this game...I die and I die and I die all the time (maybe I'm just dumb and have no sense of strategy what-so-ever)...last time I used a half-orge or something, and everyone was treating me bad (for low charisma I guess).
I was big and strong (I thougt). But this did'nt seem to help...I still kept dying (althoug not so often, but still too often for me, hehe )
Anyway...now I want to try Arcanum for ONE LAST TIME. And I want it to be right. I don't want to fight a lot so I was wondering if there are some ways throug the game without too much fighting. Some sort of diplomat character would be nice, but I'm not sure how to make the perfect diplomat. Any suggestions or helt would be great. Thanks. _________________ Its origin and purpose still a total mystery. |

It was a while when I had this on my pc, but for diplomat high charisma and master in persuasion. Still you will have to fight some battles, it’s easier for magic characters, summoning, dark magic and fire elemental schools makes a lot easier to kill your enemies.
There is low level spell harm use it, game will be piece of cake. _________________ Money - An article which may be used as a universal passport to everywhere except heaven, and as a universal provider of everything except happiness. |

^Harm is ridiculously unbalanced, so play a char with some magic abilities and use Harm - as Seth says, it'll be pretty easy. _________________ Editor @ RPGDot |

I found a well balanced melee fighter to be quite deadly. There are certain beasties you want to avoid for a while (the crystal monsters) as they damage yr weapons ... but I recall playing a character with out any 'bad' stats to be a breeze as a fighter. Then later pick up transportation magic (for teleport) and few other goodies.
You must get trained at the first village in melee skill if that is the route you want to go. The reduction in attack costs of 1 AP is huge (I believe that is the bonus for the first level of training). Also, I was playing in turn based mode ... I would recommend that as well. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

Thanks to you all!
I'm going away this weekend, but when I come back I'll start up a game.
Should I go pure-magic or try a combined magic/diplomat character? _________________ Its origin and purpose still a total mystery. |

Combined diplomat is what I usually play. It starts off a little hard but once you get to a certain point with your spells the balance tips. _________________ Editor @ RPGDot |

That point being level 1. Heh.
HarmHarmHarmHarm (dead wolf) HarmHarmHarm (dead boar) HarmHarmHarmHarm (dead wolf) HarmHarmHarmHarm (dead kite ... level up).
Nothing can stop or even slow a magic using character down. Play in turn based and learn fireflash (the level 5 fire spell) as soon as possible. Chuck two of those at the bandits at the gate and use harm to pick the survivors off.
Diplomats are fun, though. I had a small army running defense for one of my mages. Once I got Resurrect I could let the computer fight outside of turn based.
Beyond that... yeah, you die a lot in Arcanum. If something reaches you... you die. Until about level 10 this is just the way it is. Being a mage reduces these deaths but can't eliminate them. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

So what you're all saying really is that I should make a pure spellcaster instead of a combined diplomat? _________________ Its origin and purpose still a total mystery. |

NO, no, no, diplomat with magical aptitude to make the game easier for you.
Magic doesn’t require re-supplying (well except potions) so no worries about ingredients. These few points in the right spells make world of a difference. _________________ Money - An article which may be used as a universal passport to everywhere except heaven, and as a universal provider of everything except happiness. |
