Single weapon specialization question

In my game, Mission has reached third tier one-handed weapons specialization -dueling, I believe it's called. So I equip her with either a one-handed melee or ranged wep in one hand and leave the other empty. Now I look at the damage stats below her pic on the equip screen (where it says "damage to hit" ). and note her damage.

But where I'm confused is if I add another weapon to the other hand, I get that much more damage inflicted - depending on the wep used. Should I use one weapon or not? I don't see what spending points on this specialization is doing for me. I can see I'm getting bonus damage or attack points for the first weapon with this feat but it seems to stay the same whether or wheter not I use a second weapon. So where's the logic in specializing in one-handed weapons when it seems you'll always have more damage using both hands equiped? Can someone please explain? Thanks...

I am not very sure of the penalties as I do not have the manual in front of me atm but there are penalties for duel wielding weapons, for example "to hit". When I duel wield my character, she always end up missing hitting the opponent when attacking. Plus you will get a bonus if you specialise in the one-handed weapons. And there are different specialisations for dual wielding characters such as to remove the off-hand penalty.

Yes, thanks for the info reply. I must confess I'm still somewhat confused on this issue. But that's ok. It's a small matter really. It in no way detracts from the fact that this is one of the most awesome games I've ever played
