Results are a bit strange

These results are strange given the results of some other polls:

Dream Game:
Gothic 3 Ranks at the bottom at 10

Biggest RPG Disappointment
Greyhawk: The Temple of Elemental Evil ranks as first runner up

Because both games were flawed in some manner - with ToEE being the worse off.

Well done for G2 in winning. I just hope the terrible combat is sorted out for G3...!

Well, Gothic 3 is already in development, so it doesn't really count as a dream game, does it...

The top three games have a large difference in play style. From party tactics of ToEE, to the character driven story of SW:KotOR, to the involved combat of G2. I hope the future of CRPGs is this varied in game types.

I am extremely satisfied with the results. I think Gothic 2 was definitely a deserving winner. This game has really done many things very well, they have taken the point click and wait out of combat, added very intuitive AI, removed the text and added actual voice-overs where most rpg's just take the easy way out with tons of text. Created a superb quest system, very good game engine, good sound effects. Added many easter egg's, created a very hard game yet very easy game, I would have given this rpg of the year every year for the last 10 =P

IMO Gothic 2 is among my top 3 favorite rpg's of all time. Gothic 3 is already in development so it can't be a "dream" game. My "dream" game would be Gothic Online. That would be awesome As far as ratings for the game

Graphics - 9
Sound - 8.5
Gameplay - 9.5
Replayability - 9
Controls - 10
Configurability - 9.5
Atmosphere - 10

Overall - 9.7
I would recommend this game to any rpg fan.

I don't know why this site goes on and on about the Gothics other than they are European. I found both of them completely lame and had to quit.

Who is European? I can see this site and vote from my computer here in Texas. Now, let's see... who is really lame and should just quit?

Well, I am not quite sure how to respond to this statement, other than saying that you sound extremely racist towards Europeans, but quite frankly, Europeans and Gothic don't have that much in common from my knowledge.

As far as you finding both of them lame, well thats your opinion and you are entitled to it, but could you inform us of some details as to why you didn't like them? ie... Was the gameplay to hard? Have troubles running the game? Controls didn't work for you? just some basic information would be helpful.

Of course, you are right. Dream game are something that will be (possibly) never developed. M&M, Wizardry could be dream games...

Well regarding that rather reductionist statement regarding the game being lame and apparently for some reason only able to be liked by Europeans. If anything, this statement reflects the fact that Gothic takes a lot more to get into in terms of getting used to the interface and finding your place in a nonlinear world. However, once you get passed these points (took me maybe an hour) the game is much more rewarding than the large majority of "American" rpgs.

However, I think this comment does exhibit the all-too familiar trend in American gaming in which only games which do not require serious involvement or even slight learning curve are rewarded with sales. This is why we are doomed to 8 million BG: DA clones as they are easy to get into and satisfy our short attention spans. When Fallout becomes Fallout:BOS for the console because of marketability there is something seriously wrong with us.

BTW I am not one of those wacky, inexplicable, "Europeans" with which that poster seems to have so much trouble.

I for one would be hugely interested in knowing why you think Gothic's 1 and 2 were 'lame.' So if you head back to this thread, please elaborate.

A well deserved title for Gothic II.

This summons up my concerns for CRPG market, but the these top three games show that interesting titles can still be found. Even in the U.S. market.
