thief with heavy armor?

I have been playing a thief with light armor but was wondering what would happen if I decided to move to heavy armor.

I know the simple set backs like more weight to carry, quicker fatigue loss, but I am more concerned about my sneak ability. In real life heavy armor would not let you sneak hardly at all or pickpocket very well...but what about this game?

I know there are heavy armor thieves out there...tell me your story!

Heavy Armor Thieves

Using heavy armor won't affect your stealth related skills in any way, shape, or form. However, the main drawback is that heavy armor lies outside of the stealth specialization skillgroup. Assuming you're specialized in stealth, this means it's going to take a lot more work (or a lot of gold) to raise your heavy armor skill. But it's possible, and very feasable, to have a heavy armor thief type character. My assassin/thief/fighter custom class character is now pushing level 46, and while I started him out with light armor, I'm raking in enough gold now to boost my heavy armor high enough to get more of an AC boost wearing daedric armor than wearing glass armor, and I'm planning on raising it even higher. If you hate taking forever to level, I'd suggest starting out with light armor (get a suit of glass as soon as you can) and then move to heavy when you can afford to raise your heavy armor skill and daedric armor starts becoming available. I wouldn't bother with any of the other heavy armor, since you'd be specialized in light armor, glass armor is going to have better AC than pretty much anything except daedric at low heavy armor skill levels.

Hope this made sense, I just woke up 10 minutes ago.

I already have a full set of glass armor...but am going to be making a new chara because I messed this one all up so I am making a specialized one with either lightarmor or heavy armor as major skill so getting my heavy armor up fast won't matter if it is a major skill....right?

I thought regardless of what your specialized class is all your major skill go up the same...if I am wrong teach me Yoda.

Well if heavy armor and light armor will be the same for sneaking and stuff like that then there is really no benifit to not having heavy armor as a mojor skill...assuming I have the right strength to support this and high endurance which comes with the heavy armor skill....Does all this make sense or is light armor still the way to go...I really did like my toon in Glass armor..but I am all about AC...

Dont forget most stealth skills benefit from the same stat. Heavy armor is a STR skill, so it wont benefit at all. And besides, a thief with Heavy armor looks silly.

Heavy Armor is an Endurance skill not Strength as previous poster stated.

That in itself makes it worthwhile for every character to wear some medium or heavy armor just to get some endurance bonuses and hence some hit points.

A thief in heavy armor might look silly, but nothing looks sillier than glass armor.

I believe your success in Stealth is modified by the weight of your footwear - heavy boots aren't the best choice.

I read that somewhere that your stealth is based on your foot wear..and that would mess up your sneak skill but with a sneak skill of 100 and agility of 120...I wonder if that would matter?

The benefit of heavy armor is more endurance(which as a thief you can't get with anything useful) and the better ac.

I do disagree with the glass armor looking stupid. When I put on my full set of glass...I was like DAMN...I LOOK GOOD!

Well I am guesing that it really doesn't matter what you wear, but just for role playing principle light armor sounds more realistic.

No way, glass armor looks like you should be getting ready to go fight the Green Lantern or battle He-Man for control of Eternia - Put a robe on over it if you must wear it!

No, seriously, I respect your opinion, I actually don't really like the way most of the armor looks especially the helmets so I don't wear them, but it's all opinion.

I totally agree witht the helmets though...all the helmets make you look like someone else.

Actually the reason why I like glass armor so much is because it looks so ordamental...like you are some rich wannabe adventurere who doesn't realize what he is getting himself into. That doesn't sound like a good thing the way I said it, but will all the jewels and stuff like that (plus the glass armor helmet is the only helmet that I actually like.)

regular steel is actually one of the few armor sets that I like...but no very useful for a thief.

Hehe...I just found out today that you can put a robe over armor and that you can wear a shirt and pants under your amor and I have been playing since the game came out...pretty funny...now I can cover up the chitin armor on my new thief (now who came up with the look on that armor)
