Im not for censorship, but I am bewildered as to how people like Tupac can be held up by black leaders as a hero. And he is! I mean this guy is having an "Arts Center" and a "Peace Garden" created in his name!
A "Peace Garden?" THis guy was one of the reasons for black negative stereotypes today, if you wanted to make a recruit tape for the KKK, I couldnt think of a better medium. Heres a great article on the fallacy of it all by none other than the one and only Michael Medved-

Which is your good right, just as it is other people's good right to dislike it.

I like most kinds of music, though I never like the whole range represented by a style.

The point is not that you like it - that is simply a matter of preference and need not be justified although many people agree that the ability to justify one's admiration of something (rap or anything else) elevates not only the admirer but the object of his admiration as well.

However, you said that rap was great - while coloquial I took this to mean you were making a statement to the objective quality and thus it's potential historical rank in the halls of musicdom. In truth, if all you were doing was making an exclamation of your "like" of rap - then no intellectualization is really required. After all, some people "like" to drink urine and eat feces - but that does not make urine and feces likely candidites for Haute Cuisine.

I like both, but I voted for rock because I guess my favorite bands would be more rock than rap.

I really liked "rock" bands like The Dead, Phish, Guster, String Cheese Incident, Pink Floyd, Primus, old Red Hot Chili Peppers, Widespread Panic, et al, but almost all "rock" from bands that have come out in the last 10 years or so is really bad. I mean, Limp Trizkut is possibly the most juvenile, retarded feces I've listened to. And people like Linkin Park, Disturbed and Godsmack just sound like idiots yelling and playing easy guitar parts. Korn is tolerable, but their lyrics make me want to vomit.

Rap isn't much better. Eminem can be funny and has the right idea on a few things, but he's pretyt stupid. Tupac is dead. DEAD. But there's still Snoop Dog, and I would classify Rage as being rap. Too bad they broke up. And there are a few good rappers out there, but they seem outweighed by R Kelly (why can't I pee on a 14-year-old too?) and Jay Z.

wOHO! Go Gothic Soul!

@Oye:

friday night it's party time
feeling ready looking fine,
viene diego rumbeando,
with the magic in his eyes
checking every girl in sight,
grooving like he does the mambo
he's the man alli en la disco,
playing sexy felling hotter,
he's the king bailando et ritmo ragatanga,
and the dj that he knows well,
on the spot always around twelve,
plays the mix that diego mezcla con la salsa,
y la baila and he dances y la canta
Chorus:
Aserejé, ja deje tejebe tude jebere
sebiunouba majabi an de bugui an de buididipí (x3)

many think its brujeria,
how he comes and disappears,
every move will hypnotize you,
some will call it chuleria,
others say that its the real,
rastafari afrogitano

he's the man alli en la disco,
playing sexy felling hotter,
he's the king bailando ritmo ragatanga,
and the dj that he knows well,
on the spot always around twelve,
plays the mix that diego mezcla con la salsa,
y la baila and he dances y la canta

I agree. The really annoying thing is when it's played on the radio I usually find myself humming it the next day and then having to beat myself for poor taste in music. It's like Kylie's "Can't Get You Out of My Head" or "Blue" by Eiffel 65, you may hate it but it gets stuck in your head.

@ Jericho. Admit it, you just like the film clip with the little girlies dancing on the table.

Joey Nipps you said what you had to say and I said what I had to say (read it this way: You have more expierience then my and i learned while playing BG2 that it's pointless to fight with a 30lv mage when your on the 10 lv ) . But I don't now why you can't see any good sides of rap. I don't now any other type of music that shows the world from the bed side, music that shows life. Maybe most of lyrics are lies ( or show the world like a place where you die for nothing wich isn't true....yet ) but some of them describe things really good.
