this is simple, why do you think your favorite gothic1 characters were thrown into the barrier?
we already know about lee and diego, but what about the others?

As to why Diego was thrown in

Gerbrant, one of the wealthy citezens of khorinis in Gothic 2 had Diego thrown into the barrier.

Too bad the comic is in German!  I think Lester has some mental issues. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice guy, but he does have his weird moments

who cares if he killed anyone he is one of the immortal 4. The five of them could end the orc war by themselves.
i think lester was thrown in for getting in the way of some important guy.

Lee was thrown in to the collony because of a conspiracy against him (something to do with the queen, he was a high one a the kings court).  |

In gothicII the leader of the thiefs guild mentions him, he left her a chest with a very diifcult combination. I bet Fingers was member and maybe leader of the thiefs guild before he was trown into the barrier. |

Also in G2 there is a cook into former Gomeziz castle with known history. But I am not sure he was in G1. |
