I doubt that someone was allowed to publish english scripts for the german Gothic II.
Beside the copyright troubles... the english and the german script base are different (not only related to language issues).

It probably won't work until the end but only for the part that was included in the demo(so no subtitles in the old world). |

Hi!
I am the (leader) translator for the hungarian version.
Hi HornOx! Thanks for your tirelessly help and support!
I was surprised, that you post a link to my site
So, what i want to say:
Many people in Hungary use the english translation by HornOx. They say, it is full functionally till the end of the game. If you don't see the NPC's after the demo, you must create a new game after you copied the translation into the Data map! (play without translation, save/quit, copy translation, play again(?), save/quit, create a new game)
Try around! I never used it, so i can only say, what other people told me, but i do not really remember the exact method.
The other thing about copyright:
I do not really care, what Piranha Bytes say to my translation, because they did not even published Gothic1 nor Gothic2 in Hungary, not to mention a localization, so they should thank to me, that i make this work for free, not blame me.
You must know, there are very few translated games in Hungary. Except some games developed in Hungary (Haegemonia, Imperium Galactica etc.)
So, for hungarian people it is normally to play a game in foreign language. They would buy it in german too. (so tey are forced to take it on the illegal way)
Fortunately there is a big community of translators, they do a very good job.
The most games are only text translated, like Gothic2 for english people. So i am "happy", that you feel the pain, what it means to be "locked out" and if there is a game developer here, maybe he/she will think about it to make his/her game be available in "not so popular" languages too...
Thank you for your attention!
P.S: Sorry for my bad english |

Thanks for the hint, i change a few NPC instances (e.g. Lord Hagen) and Gothic should crash now if someone want to load a full version savegame with my translation.
@Lysander: Can you update your mirror with the new file?
@all: Infogrames publish the english version and they lost money and get sad or angry if you use the automatic translation for the full game, even if you buy the german full version.

News today 4-23-2003 Infogrames is going to publish Gothic 2 in English version!
Good news, we should be seeing Gothic 2 in English sometime soon? Hopefully, this will make the auto-translation for English language version anyway a moot point. _________________ Wo ist mein Sumpfkraut? |
