New RPG/Platform hybrd project :)

The prototype version of my current project is now available for download from here;

http://www.angelfire.com/retro2/uoh

When i have a new game idea, i tend to put a quick prototype togethor to see how it works. It's a retro RPG / Platform game hybrd, which is why i thought this board might like it. I put this togethor to kind of 'test out' the idea, and if people really likeit, i can think about making a more complete version. any comments / ideas or suggestions, let me know.

cheers

Stu, I'll pm you when I've had a chance to give the demo a good go-through. I wanted to show my support for your project, because I think innovation deserves recognition.

Thanks to everyone for trying it. I'm basically just testing out the idea. I'm looking for your opinions, such as what you enjoyed / what you hated, what you think needs to be changed.

cheers again

I like it. You've done a great job so far.

The only two things I can think of for criticism are minor:

1. The words are a little hard to read on the paper background

2. You spelt 'Dwarvish' as 'Dwarfish'. It's not a big deal, if you did that on purpose that's fine.

It reminded me of a mixture between an oold Commodore Amiga game called LionHeart and the Lost Vikings.

If you havent played those I suggest you get hold of an emulator and check them out, they would give you some real good pointers on how to make an excellent Platformer with puzzle elements.

Here are some of my thoughts:

I like the direction that the world is going in, with certain parts only accesible by certain characters. I liked the way that sometimes changing into the new character wasnt always the best idea, since there could be something up ahead that only the old character could access.

You should try and implement some puzzles that you need to get the characters to work together aswell.

Its difficult for me to make suggestions without knowing where you are currently heading. The game is obviously very minimal at the moment, so there isnt much there to comment on.

If you want to give some details on specific features that you intend to implement, I will be happy to give you my oppinion on those.

thanks to everyone for playing it. I'm basically trying to blend RPG and Platform genres. the puzzle elements came from the game looking a bit like Fury of the Furries, or lost vikings. I'd be happy to simply turn it into an fast paced platform game, but then im afraid it might lose its RPG elements. (like having fast attacks rather than building it up)

I'm def. gonna have free choice of character from now on though.

I loved Fury of the Furries!!!

I dont think you should make it into a fast paced platform game, I liked its slow pace. It just needs more diversity with what you do, which is why I suggested the puzzle and co-operation elements...
