Well... it was a so-so movie. You got the huge battle scenes, the nicely chroegraphed duel scenes, the death scenes, the kissings etc. etc.
But you don't get to see the GODS, dammit, which really downs this movie. And was the real siege of Troy ONLY 14 days? I don't remember exactly, but wasn't it something more like 10 years?
Was a bit dissapointed.
14 days?? The war was lasted 10 years. But the Iliad describes the last weeks of the war. It has come to my city here in Greece but I will go next week. To much crowd now. |

This movie SUCKS!!!Again, I paid $7.25 and was raped by Hollywood.
If you like Gladiator, Conan the Barbarian, Lord of the Rings, Clash of the Titans, Ben Hur, Passion of the Christ...stay away from this piece of trash.
Save your money for Oliver Stone's Alexander the Great later this year.
Cons...
horrible looping soundtrack...2:45 minutes of headache inducing monotony...there is no silence for dialogue
horrible dialogue
crappy acting
Achilles is made out to be a freaking wimp
pathetic fight-scenes...this should have been PG-13
rapes the epic poem by Homer
The 90s tv miniseries are better than this
Pros...
I seriously laughed myself to tears watching this movie. I live in a college town...everyone was laughing through the whole movie. This is a really cheesy movie that sort of tries to take itself serious.
Prediction...
No way in Hell will this ever become Criterion Collection material. No way in Hades will this movie ever make back the 200 million used to make it. I think it will have a really strong opening weekend...and then fizzle!!!
It was torture to sit through. _________________ Between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities…there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars…Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand…to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet. - Robert E. Ouch?
So you're saying that it tried to be the Lord of the Rings of ancient war movies and ended up the Waterworld? (which was ok, but nothing spectacular no matter how expensive it was)
I'll probably end up seeing it... but so far what I've read hasn't inspired me (not just here, and not 'professional' critics.). _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

This movie tried to be epic, but fell on it's face halfway out the gate.
And what the hell was up with Achillies' "signature move". A jump in the air with a downward thrust? A two year old could come up with something better. :p _________________ -=Professional Secret Agent=-

Yup, this movie lacked of something for sure, but that’s what happens when one has big expectations.

That was probably *hold joystick forward, quick three quick taps on the run button then hold jump and hand hit* new method of computer effects _________________ Money - An article which may be used as a universal passport to everywhere except heaven, and as a universal provider of everything except happiness. |

I doubt it'll be as graphical as the Iliad.
I'm pretty sure it was. There's lots of spears in faces, blood and gore, and badass fighting. I haven't read The Iliad, but I have read The Odyssey, so I think I know how Homer writes, and I think the movie is about as gory as the book. _________________ OMG! WTF?! MONKEYS!!!!

I can't handle Brad Pitt playing Achilles, he looks too much like a surf dude than a great warrior.
I read the Iliad, nothing like the making of Troy. Gods are hardly mentioned are they worried people might convert to a Classic Greek pantheism.
Who's playing Oddysseus?
Otherwise they won't be a sequel.
Troy 2: The Way Home or The Return?
I think Homer Simpson wrote this one, he did write the one about the robot driving instructor and a pie. Ron Howard directs, does anyone know if it is still going ahead? _________________ The optimist sees the doughnut.

Sean Bean, the guy that played Boromir in Fellowship of the Rings.
I saw the film recently. I wasn't really impressed. I did like Hector though. _________________ Freeeeeeedom! Thank heavens it's summer!

Oh well, if there is a sequel it will have to be recast. Sean Bean isn't A list, however he's not a bad actor like some A list movie stars. _________________ The optimist sees the doughnut.

"The Troy" wasn't bad. What is more...it is very good movie if you remember about what director said "it;s not Iliad screen version". It's independent movie which was inspirated by history of Troyan War. Absence of gods didn't suprise me, it was rather costume-drama situated in antiquity. |
