Vampire is one of the very best RPG games ever made.
linear - yes - but that is the price of having top-notch voice actors tell you a compelling story - which is what Vampire does. all RPG games of this format are linear. when you have a ton of voice-actors/studio time involved, as Vampire does - they had to limit the gameplay choices in order to fit into the game the voice-acting lines which they were able to afford to record. Vampire has several hours worth of voice-acting if i'm not mistaken, almost all of which is top-notch.
only exception to this principle is Deus Ex. but Deus Ex was a miracle. you can't really knock Vampire too much for being linear when you consider all the tons of voice-acting they put into the story. Vampire could have had a generic POS "story" like Morrowind and all-text instead of hearing the actual voice-actors speak to you. then Vampire wouldn't be linear at all - but that would have made Vampire suck. being told a tight story usually comes at a price, and this price was linearity.
Vampire has the best graphics and sound i've ever seen in any RPG. much better than NWN and Morrowind even tho Vampire is from 1999. LOL
Vampire gets knocked around too much. it's really not a bad game at all. cheaters/hackers did kill the multiplayer right off the bat tho, which is a huge shame. |

The game was quite good for the 1st half (medieval era) but went downhill after you end up in the modern age. And the combat became quite boring, maybe coz I kept using the 'lure-a-monter-at-a-time' trick on every enemy group
Too bad they cancelled Werewolf the Apocalypse - Heart of Gaia. It would've been a better game compared to V:TM's diabloesque gameplay and looks closer to the upcoming Bloodlines. _________________ The world is small, nasty and complicated, and everybody dies alone... - Sam Fisher |

i love vampire and i still play it..i also got it working on xp..don't know how but i did......my brother and myself are always playing multiplayer. multiplayer is good as long as cheaters/hackers/etc. don't get involved. a good role playing session online can last for several hours..once i was up to about 2 in the morning playing in one.......i also thgink the game is better online if you build up your character in stead of using the storyteller to just boos him up to max.....well that is my two cents.....

i don't know why some of you guys knock Vampire's gameplay
it has one of the very best - if not THE very best - interfaces ever put into a game. everything is one quick click or hotkey away. the interface was slick, intuitive, and pretty. gameplay was awesome. this was basically "a rich man's Diablo" - which mean it's hectic real-time battles which also require strategic thinking/use of spells (unlike Diablo II where all you ever do is mash the same exact one or two spell buttons - Vampire actually requires THOUGHT and STRATEGY to kill the enemies)
it's a true shame that we'll never see that Vampire interface again. |
