OK! Now it's ended the first round of matches... every team played 1 game (Germany and EIRE 2)... any opinion?
I think Senegal, South Corea and U.S.A. are the revelations of this tranche... and to the other side France and Brazil didn't do their best...
what match do you like more?

btw: anyone (mods - admins) could make sticky this topic? pleeeeease

USA and Ireland already played...[explitve]!

I waited all week and thought they'd play later tonight!

I forgot about the huge time diffrence...[explitive]!

Now I already know the scores! Now when I watch them later on TV it won't be as fun. POOOP!

: sighs and paces the hall way :

Well...I guess Ireland has 2 points now? How many points do the other teams in thier group have?

Thanks, and about EIRE, they have a good team but they lack of heavy goleador...someone like Vieri, Ronaldo, Crespo... one player that is big, fast and tall (and don't say that Quinn is the heavyest player in this Cup (100Kg!!!) )

My opinion after the first round

The positive surprises:

USA: They were aggressive and it was obvious that they wanted to win this game a lot more than the “superior” Portuguese.

South Korea: Their fast and direct style was amazing. They had Poland bagged from the first whistle.

Senegal: Well, the result was a surprise but I wouldn’t say I was impressed with their playing style. It reminded me too much of good-old boring Norway. Heavy defending and long balls up to a single striker.

The Negatives:

Croatia: Very poor performance against Mexico. I had expected a lot more from the Bronze winners of the last World Cup but age finally caught up with them. Players like Davor Suker, Prosinecki, Robert Jarni & Alen Boksic are way past their prime. I can’t imagine they make it past the group games.

Saudi Arabia: OK, I didn’t expect them to win or even draw against Germany but 8-0 is just awful. They shouldn’t be at the World Cup.

France: I wouldn’t count them out yet but they played poorly in the opener. Too many unforced errors. Passing was hopeless.

Portugal: Very bad attitude. Thought this was a walkover. Thankfully they were shown that this was not the case.

Best game so far: USA – Portugal

Worst: Croatia – Mexico.

Tomorrow is exciting (for me ). The boys are going to show that Senegal’s victory was a lucky one.

Boy! This is one of the worst games I’ve seen. The boys suffered heavily in the heat and had a hard time coping with Senegal’s dirty tricks.

Senegal though, did play some nice flowing attacking football that could have given them the win but poor refereeing destroyed the match. He disallowed a Tomasson goal that could have given DK a 2-0 lead and he didn’t see Fadiga punch Helveg in the face in the first half. He should have been red carded for that offence.

The draw is very disappointing for Denmark as they almost certainly will have to get a good result in the last game against a French team that may need all three points. We’ve lost the last three times we meet them so the odds are looking grim.

The draw makes it especially hard for France and the other team in the group. Denmark and Senagal will go in the next match knowing that a draw will be enough.

OK think this: (consider that France should win) today points:
Danmark 4
Senegal 4
France 3
Uruguay 0
now Danmark (against France) will go on if they win or the drow reaching at least 5 points. Senegal can even lost his 3rd match:
Damnark 5
Senegal 4
France 4
Uruguay3
Will go on: Danmark first and ... heheheh... Senegal (they win the direct match with France)

hmmm... I suppose your right but it will still be very difficult getting a point against France. It could be fun though if France didn’t reach the knock-out stages.

Btw. Yog Sothoth. Very cool Avatar you got there!
