Installation Problem

Hello
I have problems with the Gothic 2 game, I just cant install it.

when I try to install the game it only installs 2 files and writes:
"Gothic 2 could not be installed successfolly because the CD failed the authenticity check. Please make sure that the Gothic 2 Play-CD (CD1) is inserted into the local CD/DVD-ROM drive while starting the installation process. If your PC has more than one CD drive please insert the CD into another drive and start the installer from there. Please make also sure you are using current drivers for IDE-controller and mainboard. Click the Finish button to abort this installaton."

System info.:
Pentium 4 2.00 GHz
1.92 GB free space
256 mb of ram

Help please......

p.s. sorry about my English I live in Israel....

Hey there rb89,

Welcome to the forums,

I also noticed this stupid german translation problem when i first
installed G2, here is the correct sequence:-

1. put the "play" cd to start.
2. when asked for the next cd, put in "install-1" cd.
3. when asked for the next cd, put in "install-2" cd.
4. when asked for the next cd, put in "play" cd, to run the game.

Good luck

Hey there rb89.

you hav'nt given you full pc spec's but G2 neads a fair ammount of power
like 512mb of ram, a dma' enabled cd player, the game loadup needs at
least 2.2gb of free space and more for extra saves etc'. and more,

At least, if you can read the txt. file on the cd in windows (?what op'sys,?)
you will be able to find the min' pc specs' required to run G2.

Come back if you find more.

Hey there rb89,

That looks better now, i thought you only had 1.92 gb free space,

The ram will be sufficient (but a bit under powered)

You did'nt name you video/graphics card?

You must have the latest motherboard chipset agp/ide bustmaster drivers
as well as the latest video driver.

The dma' must be enabled for the hard-drive and cd-rom? ? are they??

About the loading of cd's, the order as previously mentioned is the REAL
order NO MATTER WHAT YOU ARE ASKED FOR!

Please check

O.K rb89,

Assuming that your gothic cd's are genuine and not from a car boot sale - -

I am working "blind" on this as you did not say your model of motherboard
or the chipset which would be "most" helpful. then i would know if your mobo'
bios was needed (the latest) however, for now, check the dma's are on.

In Win/xp go to control panel/system/hardware/device manager/ide/
advanced setting/ the transfer mode wants to be "dma if poss" assuming
that the current setting is on PIO mode - - do this for device 0 and 1, then
check the same for secondry ide and do the same as required, (depending
on you cd/cd-rom/hardrives you have)

Then reboot windows, then go back into device manager and see what the
current mode is, we are looking for "ultra dma mode 2" or similar then report back.
with the settings

lol

So now it looks like that:

Primary IDE Channel:
Device 0: Transfer Mode: DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 5
Device 1: Transfer Mode: DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode: PIO Mode

Secondary IDE Channel:
Device 0: Transfer Mode: DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 2
Device 1: Transfer Mode: DMA if available
Current Transfer Mode: Multi-Word DMA Mode 2

Is it OK?

As you asked me my Mainboard is SiS 645 Chipset Based MSI 645 Ultra-C....

Hey there rb89,

Yes that is good, we are progressing, by the way is that a cd/writer you have as well as cd-rom or dvd?, and if so which drive are you using to install.
BECAUSE - - - -

you must remove ANY files you find installed previously, before you
can use the other drive to try a fresh install, (this is important)

Meanwhile i am checking some details.

Well now rb89,

Even more progress,

Do not use your cd-writer to install, try one of the others, 52* - 56* or
whatever, this is what your first thread info was saying, your "normal use"
cd-rom or atapi or dvd-rom, we're nearly there, i await with great
anticipation.
